Position Summary
As Tax Manager, you will be primarily responsible for managing all aspects of direct and indirect tax compliance matters including but not limited to management of tax queries or audit, and incentive/subsidy. You will be the key Tax Lead in managing the relationship with local tax authorities and foster seamless collaboration with global/regional Finance and Tax teams, and other business stakeholders to ensure the adherence of tax compliance governance and tax process maintained in the region. In addition, as Illumina continues to grow globally into new and existing markets, you will lead or participate in business expansion initiatives, system enhancement and other strategic projects as assigned.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Job duties include but not limited to:
- Manage all local direct and indirect tax return filings and queries/audits, including performing a wide variety of hands-on compliance work/tax reconciliation for completeness and accuracy, and ensure returns are filed within internal and external timeline.
- Coordinate and manage any tax audits, inquiries and notices from tax authorities and draft responses accordingly.
- Provide practical tax advice on all aspects of direct and indirect tax related questions, including daily inquiry on TDS/GST/withholding tax/SAC and implement tax efficient solution in compliance with the local tax requirement
- Participate in ongoing development/establishment of tax policies/procedures and operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes that are required for tax filing and fulfilment of local tax regulations/legislation
- Participate and lead cross-functional projects as requested, including evaluating the tax impact and/or designing the end-to-end work processes, workflow and/or system enhancement to drive the desired tax outcome for reporting
- Stay updated with local legislation development & advises on the applicability or opportunity for the business operation and what is necessary registration required for the business operation in India
- Involve in month-end financial close activities and support accounting team in statutory audit, including the preparation of monthly reconciliation relating to tax accounts, quarterly tax provision/deferred tax calculation, tax schedules necessary for statutory audit, etc.
- Ensure the compliance with tax policies and strategy in place for the Group
- Explore any potential tax incentive/subsidy/grant available for the Company
- Interact and maintain good liaison relationship with tax authorities and consultant
- Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
- Conduct a thorough analysis of taxes to provide practical tax advice on tax planning and optimisation opportunities to ensure compliance with local regulations.
- Lead tax discussion with internal/external stakeholders and maintenance of any tax policies/records/procedures
- Regional tax filings/Tax project(s) as and when assigned
Preferred Background:
- Minimum 5 - 7 years of taxation experience preferably in MNC and/or Big 4 or Accounting with strong taxation experience in India. APJ region exposure and Life science and/or manufacturing industries tax experiences are a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, taxation or equivalent qualification
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications especially Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint
- Prior experience in SAP (or equivalent ERP system) is preferred
- Good organizational skills, highly detailed oriented and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and external agencies
- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment, make decisions, handle unforeseen issues and effectively deal with ambiguity
- Ability to be flexible and work analytically in a problem-solving environment
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- Proven track record in driving projects and process improvement initiatives
