About the Job:


Global Loans Operation (GLO) Lead has a demonstrated track record of solid functional and professional behavioral performance.   Must successfully oversee and supervise a commercial loan operations team ensuring daily operations are running efficiently.  Work collaboratively with global teams, including EMEA and US.  Requires strong interpersonal skills for mentoring, coaching, supporting and motivating loan operations team members to perform successfully.  Ability to handle commercial loan processing and client escalations, work across multiple loan systems and bank applications, implement process improvements and develop best practices for loan operational processing, building a culture of continuous improvement.

Essential Functions


  • Comprehensive understanding of commercial loan processes, procedures, controls, risks, rules and regulations to fulfill assignments and support team members.  Has strong knowledge in understanding the functions within the department and applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks and variety of assignments independently. Acts as an escalation point for the GLO team providing subject matter expertise in commercial loan boarding, funding, servicing, and governance.  Provides thought leadership and analytical skills on how best to approach or solve a situation.  Participates in and may lead initiatives that benefits their direct team and may have impact upon the broader GLO team.  Adept at facilitating and participating in discussions regarding a myriad of problems associated processes, new applications, or enhancements of existing systems.  Works collaboratively with other business functions to improve the client and colleague experience.
  • Works independently and under minimal supervision.  Requires good organization skills with attention to detail and ability to work as part of a cohesive business unit.  Comfortable establishing and maintaining positive and professional relationships both within SVB and our clients, together with vendors and other banks’ operations teams outside of SVB.  Able to communicate with influence, including well developed oral and written communication skills.  Deals effectively, diplomatically, and tactfully with a wide variety of people. This is a working Lead role wherein the individual will still assist on the day to day work processing when there is high workflow, staff shortage and as team members require guidance.
  • Responsible for day to day lead responsibilities for a team between 8-15 full-time employees.
  • Lead plays a key role in creating an environment based on personal accountability, learning and growth across their team through consistent coaching and feedback, ensuring a smooth work flow with our internal business partners and takes the lead in resolving escalations, delegating clear assignments, establishing clear priorities for the team, motivating to meet and exceed performance expectations and identifying and adopting best practices for loan operations.
  • Role will act as an escalation resource for requests handled by GLO Team. Researching and resolving a variety of commercial loan processing and client related issues where applicable.
  • Work with internal business partners and vendors as required.  Accountability for understanding and adhering to bank policies, procedures, legal and compliance requirements are critical in this role. 
  • Will work with commercial loan operations managers or other senior GLO staff to research loan related inquiries, respond to internal and external requests for information, review and certify various reports, champion new initiatives and encourage the sharing of key learning and best practices across work units.
  • Assists the sales team with accurate and timely information required for compliance and credit decisions in accordance with bank and division policy. Supports Finance with all reporting and month end close requirements. 
  • Provide ongoing 1:1 and group training to staff based on identified team responsibilities.

  • Builds relationships with team and other internal clients and collaborates to resolve issues.  Recommends potential process improvements.  Special Projects as assigned by management.

What You’ll Bring:


  • Demonstrated expertise of bank products, loan systems (Loan IQ/ACBS/Flexcube etc.) regulations, processes, and procedures; may require expertise of more than one group of operational functions
  • Demonstrated Commercial Lending Operations experience which includes, but is not limited to the Boarding, Funding and Servicing of Commercial Loans
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the associated processes, procedures, controls, and documentation associated with Commercial Loans
  • Strong ability to multi-task, handle high volumes, and support/manage cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to convey information
  • Proficient at independently researching and solving complex scenarios
  • Solid networking skills, strong ability to establish relationships with internal clients.

Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree/Master’s Degree (preferably Commerce/MBA)
  • 7-8 years of related professional experience (banking/financial services industry, specifically commercial lending operations experience)
  • 1-2+ years of lead experience will be good
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, MS SharePoint and navigating multiple systems and applications are required

  • LSTA/LMA certified
  • American Bankers Association
