The Smart Home team is focused on making Alexa the user interface for the smart home. From the simplest voice commands (turn on the lights, turn down the thermostat) to use cases spanning home security, home entertainment, and the home environment, we are evolving Alexa to work more naturally, with less manual set up and configuration.
Our team is looking for a Senior Engineering leader to manage the engineering org in Bangalore. This Senior Manager will lead a group of dev managers and engineers and own critical services and programs across Alexa and will be responsible for driving GUI experiences across Echo devices.
As a Senior Manager, you will set new standards for engineering and delivery management across our organization, improve execution to reduce time to market, and increase quality. You will develop a highly skilled tech team by hiring high quality employees, setting clear career goals and providing coaching and mentorship both in your team and across our larger organization. You will lead the team in SW delivery, tech innovation, architecture of large scale systems, and operational excellence. The products & services built by your team will be used by Operations stakeholders & Alexa partner teams across the globe. You will also ensure right outcomes, not just process execution.

As a Senior Manager you will be responsible for:
1. Creating a culture of technical and business excellence, innovation, strong execution and delivery.
2. Establishing effective SW delivery, quality and operational standards, and inspiring the organization to continuously learn and improve in all aspects
3. Own short to long term planning, project and program definition, management and E2E delivery.
4. Knowing when to delegate and when to dive deep. Do periodic reviews of design, delivery and operations to drive excellence throughout our organization.
5. Decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions that demonstrate significant creativity and high judgment. Teach others to do the same.
6. Hire and grow world class technical and managerial talent – Find and foster the future leaders at Amazon and promote diversity
7. Work closely with other Alexa organizations to deliver features that grow the business while improving the platform and driving down costs.
8. Represent business and technical metrics to executive leadership on a weekly basis.

Key job responsibilities
- Drive the technical direction and architecture of complex software systems
- Manage multiple development teams focused on creating back-end infrastructure and mobile applications
- Work closely with a diverse group of stakeholders including Product Managers, Data Engineers, Applied Scientists, internal technical teams and leadership to drive end-to-end solutions and engineering roadmap.

A day in the life
As a Sr. Software Development Manager on the Alexa Smart Home team, you will lead the development of highly-visible products and services for the smart home. Your work will span developing GUI experiences, voice user interfaces and cloud services. You will help lay the foundation to move from directed device interactions to learned behaviors that span multiple devices throughout the home. And, you will have the satisfaction of working on a product your friends and family can relate to, and want to use every day.
About the team
We build customer-facing features as well as backend services that directly impact the daily customer experience for smart devices. This is a highly visible role, operating with many technical leaders and product managers across Amazon Alexa with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
You will drive project execution, recruit, hire, and develop the industry’s top engineering talent. We’re looking for candidates that have acted as a technical leader and built high-performance, scalable and robust systems in a complex, multi-tiered, distributed environment.
- 12+ years of engineering experience
- 5+ years of engineering team management experience
- 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment
