Your Role
The Specifications Writer with Gensler in India is responsible for assisting project teams in preparing Preliminary Project Descriptions, Outline Specifications, and Construction Project Manuals. The role includes supporting project teams in their responsibility of researching materials, selecting products, editing specifications, and administering construction contracts. The supporting role includes training, mentoring, and collaborating with project teams to edit some specifications. Construction specifiers at Gensler are integrated project team members rather than departmentalized in-house consultants.
What You Will Do
Provide specification editing support for a variety of Offices, Studios and Practice Areas
Communicate firm best practices, policies, and procedures to project teams, with a focus on material research capabilities and sustainability
Educate and mentor staff on master specification documents, construction document technology, and editing methodology that all design intents are properly documented in the specifications.
To develop a comprehensive construction specification that complies with all applicable building codes, standards, and regulations, and aligns with the project's architectural, Interior Design and engineering requirements.
Liaise with manufacturers' representatives to gather product data, installation methods, and performance standards, while working with architects, designers, consultants, and project teams to ensure accurate and complete specifications..
Assist Regional Specification Leaders in developing and maintaining master specification documents to comply with national, local and industry specific codes and regulations
Assist Regional Specification Leaders in preparing and presenting educational materials related to specifications and other technical topics and conduct a regular meetings with the project team to update specifications, clarify and resolve challenges
Assist Regional Specification Leaders with compliance training and monitoring activities
Assist Regional Specification Leaders with up to date changes in construction codes, standards and product innovations.Assist Regional Specification Leaders in researching new construction materials, products, and systems, providing detailed descriptions and performance characteristics to ensure the selection of the most suitable options for the project.
Assist Regional Specification Leader to reviews construction documents to ensure quality and consistency between specification and project drawings
Assist Regional Specification Leader to develop specification sections for bid and tender documents, assist in preparing detailed procurement packages for the project team, and review bids and contractor proposals to ensure they meet the required specifications.
Provide training to junior staff on developing and reviewing specifications, while mentoring less-experienced specification writers to enhance their understanding of architectural and construction terminology and practices.
Your Qualifications
Bachelor of Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited school preferred
Registered architect or interior designer preferred
8 -15 years of experience in a similar role
Hold a Construction Document Technologist (CDT) certificate, or preferably be a Certified Construction Specifier (CCS)
Working knowledge of base building and interior fit out construction documentation
Experience in large building construction and interior fit out specifications writing required
Ability to edit and produce specifications from un-edited masters is preferred
Ability to write customized specification sections is a plus
Use of AIA MasterSpec through E-Specs to create and edit specifications sections is a plus
Ability to conduct product and system research required
Good command of both written/oral English
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to organize and administer work for multiple projects with competing priorities
Excellent Team player and ability to work with multiple team members across multiple projects

Your Design Technology Qualifications
Essential:
Good working knowledge and experience in Autodesk Revit for design authoring, documentation, data extracts and project delivery.
Good knowledge and experience with the strategic planning, and setup of BIM projects.
Good knowledge and experience with collaboration within the BIM context, including cloud-based markups, consultant coordination and clash detection.
Basic understanding and familiarity with interoperability workflows between various design tools such as, AutoCad, Revit, Rhino, etc.
Desirable:
Basic understanding and familiarity in Rhinoceros for design authoring.
Basic understanding and familiarity with real-time rendering processes, and material creation & management within the context of integrated BIM and parametric workflows.
Understanding of the capabilities and application of Information Management tools such as Aconex, Asite, Newforma, etc.
