Job Summary:
The Risk Treatment Specialist is a key position within Northern Trust’s enterprise risk management function, charged with the responsibility of assisting the Head of Risk Treatment in overseeing risk treatment and issues management. Sitting within the 2nd line of defense, this Specialist reports to the Head of Risk Treatment and will play an important role in governing risk treatment and related activities establishing deep relationships with the 1st line of defense. The core responsibilities encompass oversight of risk treatment, issues management and remediation, control monitoring, policy exceptions, and thematic analysis. The Risk Treatment Specialist role will support the Head of Risk Treatment in fostering a culture of proactive risk treatment through training and monitoring adherence across the lines of defense.
Major Duties
• Support sustaining and embedding risk treatment practices across lines of defense through training and adherence monitoring as a key leader for the Central Issues Management Team
• Maintain monitoring and oversight of issues management/remediation and policy exceptions
• Produce impactful and insightful thematic analysis to support proactive risk management
• Engage with Data/Tech teams and Risk Enablement team for relevant models for risk aggregation and reporting based on Risk Treatment and Issues Management and related BAU execution.
Experience and Qualifications
• 10+ years experience in risk management, including enterprise risk management experience, preferably at a large-scale financial services organization
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in designing, training, and monitoring enterprise risk treatment practices, supporting effective implementation and sustainability
• Proven capability in high-quality execution, including both independent execution, as well as influencing cross-functional stakeholders to drive change
• Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar Governance, Risk, and Compliance tool, preferred
• Experience overseeing financial and/or non-financial risks, including interpreting and adhering to associated prudential expectations
• Ability to accurately identify, escalate, and drive actions to mitigate priority risks

• Strong communication skills, including verbal and written communications to senior leaders and committees
