About the Job:
The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer to join the Virtualization Cloud team. In this role, you will contribute to user space virtualization tools such as cloud-init, open-vm-tools, walaagent. You'll explore features in the tooling, working alongside other teams from inception to integration. As a Software Engineer, you will work as part of a distributed, self-organizing team in close collaboration and regular communication with other team members and upstream developers. You'll need to be passionate about building out the open source cloud. Successful applicants must reside in a country where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What will you do?
Participate in the development of virtualization tools.
Make a positive impact on the tooling project upstream.
Ensure that new features are implemented and bugs are fixed.
Troubleshoot a diverse range of problems related to tools running RHEL, in cloud environments
Cooperate with engineering teams such as Quality Engineering and various other teams/departments.
What will you bring?
3+ years of development experience
Proficiency in Python and C
Experience with supported cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, VMware, Nutanix) regarding deploys, operations, etc.
Experience working with open source projects and tools.
Interest in open source software development, preferably with a record of contributions to projects
Experience or understanding of Linux virtualization stack (KVM, QEMU, Libvirt, containers, etc.) is considered as a plus
Good written and spoken communication in English
