As a Software Development Manager, you will lead a team of engineers in design, development, test, and deployment of a critical set of services. You will make analytical data-driven decisions, apply your strong technical ability to audit and design systems, manage engineering projects and evangelize your team's products and ideas. You will hire the best, mentor and develop your team. Manage and execute against project plans and delivery commitments. You will manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment. You will report on status of work, quality, and operations, and system performance to management. You will be responsible for both development and operations of the services.

A day in the life
As an AWS Fintech Software Development Manager, your day typically begins with a daily stand-up meeting with the engineering team, followed by one-on-one sessions for mentoring, code reviews, and guidance. Throughout the day, you collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders like product managers, designers, and finance analysts to align on project requirements, timelines, and priorities. Technical planning and strategy discussions focus on evaluating new technologies and processes to enhance development efficiency while ensuring compliance. Project reviews, risk mitigation, and sprint planning are essential to keep the team on track. The role involves working with internal teams, finance organizations, Fintech teams, and regulatory bodies to develop secure, scalable, and compliant applications on AWS. Ultimately, you drive the delivery of innovative financial technology solutions that streamline processes, improve customer experiences, and meet the evolving needs of the finance industry.
About the team
The AWS Fintech team builds and operates systems that provide financial management and reporting for AWS. We own the AWS financial data and technology solutions, with the goal of creating a comprehensive finance data platform that automates repetitive data management tasks. This allows our finance users to focus on data-driven insights and informed business decisions.
Our product portfolio includes tools and systems that standardize finance operations across various FGBS teams at the product, region, and customer levels. We work closely with finance, tax, accounting, and AWS business leaders, as well as teams like AWS Forecasting, Commerce Platform, Worldwide Revenue Operations, AWS Service, and Infrastructure to deliver best-in-class solutions.
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
