The Alexa Customer Journeys team is looking for a strong Software Development Manager to lead the Routines product development. Routines is used by more than 40% of Alexa Customers every-day and is a critical driver of adoption and retention for Alexa. The SDM on Alexa Customer Journeys - Routines will own a two-pizza team responsible for development and operation of customer impacting web services and customer facing interfaces such as the Routines hub in Alexa App. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with brilliant minds in the fields of AI, ML, and LLM. Partnering with software engineers, applied scientists, designers, and quality assurance, you will work horizontally across Alexa, own mechanisms to prioritize and streamline communication and project delivery across a diverse and highly technical range of Amazon partners. Their mission is to make creation and management of Routines a breeze for customers.
Key job responsibilities
- Hire, motivate, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team, providing opportunities to grow their skillsets and career
- Partner with stakeholders such as Product Managers, TPMs and other SDMs to deliver on business goals
- Hold a high-bar for operational excellence and be an active contributor to continuously improve the robustness and quality of the Routines platform
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
