ABOUT THE ROLE The Marketing Technology & Data Team is a Center of Excellence who is responsible for the design, development and execution of the digital, platform and data strategy. This includes the management of the Nielsen corporate website which is used to empower Nielsen audiences with value through content, insights and solutions. Nielsen is seeking a Senior Website developer who will report to the Director of Web Development. As a Senior Web Developer, you will be responsible for leading and executing complex web projects to meet the growing needs and objectives of the business. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in developing complex WordPress websites, process strong technical skills and be able to lead projects from conception to completion.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide technical leadership and guidance to web engineers including reviewing and approving code changes and setting coding standards
Design, develop and maintain corporate websites according to business needs and functional requirements.
Implement responsive and mobile-first design principles.
Research, evaluate and implement custom plugins, themes and functionality using PHP for WordPress, ensuring scalability, security and performance optimization.
Install, configure and maintain Wordpress instances, including managing themes, plugins and core updates.
Evaluate, recommend and integrate third-party services, API’s and platforms to Wordpress to meet growing needs of the business.
Work collaboratively with website designers, product manager and web strategist to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Identify and execute solutions to continually improve website performance and functionality.
Implement security best practices to mitigate risks and protect Nielsen.com from vulnerabilities.
Stay updated with the latest WordPress trends, tools and technologies, introducing new technologies and methodologies when beneficial.
Conduct code reviews and maintain high coding standards.
SKILLS REQUIRED
5+ years experience in WordPress development
Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, Javascript and Javascript Frameworks
Strong backend development skills using PHP, including experience with Wordpress APIs and custom plugin development
Experience working in the WordPress development ecosystem
Proficient with NodeJS and creating/maintaining REST API
Support legacy libraries such as Bootstrap 4, and jQuery
Experience with Google Cloud, Apps Script, and AWS is a plus
Excellent problem solving skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a remote team
Use of software design and testing principles
Version control and continuous integration using tools such as Github, CircleCI
