Senior Software Engineer (Java)

What you will do

• Contribute in the implementation of the highly scalable smart building technology components which include application code development, middleware development, database design, web services development, and associated Java services.
• The engineer will implement the various pieces of the architecture and thus have a direct impact on delivering the smart building components on-time, within budget and in accordance to the defined architectural vision and performance expectations.
• Analyze complex issues and modify working methods in own discipline.  Strong analytical skills are essential.
• No direct reports;
• Under general supervision; ability to exercise judgment. Must work effectively with a Team Lead/Architect and implement the features as directed by the Team Lead/Architect. Must be self-motivated and a "self-starter"
• The engineer is responsible to deliver high quality applications that meet the needs of the different Johnson Controls verticals.  Must proactively identify and react to changing technical and business requirements.

What we look for

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or in a related engineering field.
• 4 - 7 years of experience in software development using Java, NoSQL (preferably Mongo DB), RedPanda / Confluent, Kafka, REST API, OKTA / KeyCloak
• Experience in object oriented design methodologies & design patterns.
• At least 2 years developing large-scale N-tier, enterprise-wide, complex information technology initiatives, at both an infrastructure and an application level.
• Cloud experience in Azure or AWS (preferably Azure)
• Experience with performance and scalability tuning applications
• JavaScript, Web Services (SOAP/REST), WCF, WebAPI, LDAP, GIT, SVN, Jenkins, Wireshark, TCP, Socket Programming
• Good Knowledge in DS/Algorithm.
• Strong communication skills and be able to discuss technical topics to individuals and groups with a wide range of technical backgrounds

Preferred

• Experience with Linux.
• Some familiarity with container technology (Docker or Kubernetes)
• Experience with any UI framework like Angular, TypeScript, JQuery, etc.
