A Day in the LifeThe Senior Principal Technologist (Data Architect) role is responsible for delivering data architecture solutions aligned with business capability needs and enterprise standards. This role works with Enterprise Solution Architects, Business Solution Architects and Technical Architects and external service providers to ensure data and information models and technologies align with stated architecture strategies and Medtronic’s standards and delivery capabilities. In a delivery capacity, this role will work with Business Analysts to review and complete business capability needs, definitions, and requirements, data analysis, data modeling, technical specification writing, and working with development organizations to ensure designs are delivered.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

• Technical Expertise: Leverage your in-depth expertise in webMethods suite including Integration Server, Trading Networks, Universal Messaging, Broker Server, MWS, BAM/BPM, API Gateway, Enterprise Gateway, MFT (Active Transfer Server), webMethods.io, Informatica, ETL tools, Kafka anddata transformation techniques to design and implement robust and scalable integration solutions. 

  
  

• Solution Implementation: Oversee the implementation of integration solutions, ensuring they meet technical specifications, quality standards, and adhere to best practices. Provide hands-on technical expertise as needed. 

  
  

• Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives, exploring new tools, techniques, and methodologies to enhance integration processes, efficiency, and performance. 

  
  

• Troubleshooting and Support: Identify and resolve integration-related issues, ensuring the stability and reliability of integration solutions. Collaborate with support teams to provide timely resolutions. 

  
  

• Solution Implementation: Oversee the end-to-end implementation of complex integration solutions, including the development of APIs, connectors, middleware configurations, and data transformation processes. Ensure solutions adhere to best practices and architectural standards. 

  
  

• Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing: Provide mentorship and guidance to integration technologists and junior members of the team. Promote a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.  

  
  

• Vendor Interaction: Collaborate with vendors and third-party partners to understand product roadmaps, influence enhancements, and ensure the organization's integration architecture is future-proof and aligned with industry trends. Foster strong relationships with internal teams and external vendors to facilitate effective collaboration throughout the integration process. 

  
  

• Performance Optimization: Analyze and optimize integration solutions for performance, scalability, and reliability. Identify and address potential bottlenecks and recommend appropriate solutions. 

  
  

• Documentation and Knowledge Management: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including architectural diagrams, design documents, and integration patterns. Contribute to the development of a knowledge repository for integration practices. 

  
  

• Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, integration trends, and industry developments. Explore and recommend innovative solutions to improve integration processes, efficiency, and overall system performance. 

  
  

Required Knowledge and Experience

• 8+ years of IT experience with Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, MCA, or MSc.
• 5+ years of experience aligned to a relevant architecture discipline (integrations, data, services, infrastructure)
• 6+ years of Oracle, SAP, or ‘big data’ platform experience.
• 4+ years of Informatica experience.
• 3+ years of PowerDesigner experience.
• 2+ years of Python Coding experience.
• 2+ years of Snowflake experience.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

• 3+ years of experience and strong knowledge of Enterprise-class architecture concepts, definition, and creation.
• 5+ years working with data integration, exchange, and/or warehousing solutions and experience with Enterprise-class data modeling methodologies and tools.
• 2+ years of experience with cloud-based solutions (e.g., applications (SaaS), platforms (PaaS), and infrastructure (IaaS)) a related data modeling to an Enterprise environment.

Nice to Have

• High degree of ‘learning agility’ with the ability to readily consume and apply new information and concepts with developed analytical problem solving skills
• 3+ years of experience working with large enterprise systems & solutions
• Knowledge in technical modeling, design, and concept generation
• Awareness of architecture frameworks, such as TOGAF or Zachman, and other service and control frameworks, such as ITIL or COBIT 
• Experience with DBT
• Experience in implementation of data governance, administration and related processes
• Excellent leadership and teamwork skills
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Strong collaboration and influencing skills
• Broad knowledge of data analysis/database design technologies/tools in an operational environment
• Strong technical acumen, decision making, and influence skills across all levels of an organization
• Strong communication skills, including with employees, clients, senior management and vendors
• Solid presentation skills, including the ability to translate data concepts and technical information into business terms (e.g., ability to explain complex technical solutions and architecture strategies to non-technical resources)
• Strong results orientation (driving to deadlines, financial targets, project goals, etc.)
• Ability to work collaboratively and partner with employees, leaders, clients, and vendors
• Demonstrated ability to work in a global, virtual organization
• Work experience in the Medical Device Industry, or other regulated industry
• Ability to mentor and develop business, architecture, and technical resources
• Able to work independently as well as cooperatively.
