About this role
As a Senior Hardware Discipline Technician, you will provide specialized technical support and solutions for project teams, operations and maintenance as a CSB Designer.Understands and implements Most Effective Technology (MET), work process, tools and industry best practices within their discipline. The Hardware Disciplines within Engineering and Maintenance are comprised of the following disciplines: Buildings, Civil, Electrical, Instrument, Materials, Mechanical, Process Containment Equipment and Piping. Hardware Disciplines support both projects and technical support teams as an Inspector, Designer on large projects or Lead for their discipline on projects.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Understands and implements Most Effective Technology (MET), work process, tools and industry best practices within Civil Structural and Buildings (CSB).
- Maintain awareness of schedule, milestones, and challenges of the project and communicate to the team.
- Responsible for the appropriate level of attendance at project meetings including, but not limited to site contractor visits.
- Assist in project reviews and team checks as required to ensure quality of deliverables.
- Coordinate implementation of Civil Best practices.
- Ensure compliance with Dow standards maximizing value for the business and providing the lowest long-term cost to operate and maintain.
- Mentor and Coach new designers as required.
- Represent the Civil discipline in meetings and multi discipline discussions.
- Gather lessons learned from projects and leverage these learnings to Project.
- Drive the implementation of new technologies i.e.: laser scanning, TEKLA, etc.
- Drive NO CHANGE MENTALITY
- Responsible for managing bulks against authorization estimate quantities per progress check point agreed to with the Civil Designer Lead and alert Civil Lead of bulk changes greater than 5%.
- Responsible to alert Civil Lead on PDN request and identification.
Other Responsibilities of the Civil Designer may include:
- Provide input on setting up the project grid system
- Setting up / obtaining the Drawing Title Block data and MicroStation borders
- Ensuring S3D (hierarchy, modeling), MicroStation standards are followed
- Ensuring consistent drawing presentation
- Ensuring internal drawing checking completion (both engineering review and drafting review)
- Obtaining surveys, existing monument/benchmark information and collecting existing drawings (including underground drawings), LFM input and probing
- Coordinating with project team on project layout
- Coordinating with piping and ensuring the usage of the miscellaneous support process
- Executing and retaining clash reports
- Obtaining steel MTO’s from the S3D model
- Attend closure meeting (share with Civil Lead)
Qualifications
High School Degree /Bachelors/Diploma with at least10 years of relevant experience
Extensive experience in S3D and MicroStation
Strong organizational, interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills.
Demonstrated problem management and issue resolution skills.
