Overall Responsibilities:
1. Building CodeDeploy Pipelines:
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using AWS services such as CodeDeploy, CodeBuild, and CodePipeline.
- Automate the entire build process, including code testing, validation, security scanning, packaging, and deployment of both application and infrastructure code.
- Integrate with tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI for advanced pipeline management.
- Ensure that pipelines are robust, scalable, and easily maintainable.
2. Automating, Improving, and Maintaining AWS Build:
- Lead the automation of AWS environments, building and maintaining infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
- Optimize AWS services such as EC2, ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudFront, and IAM to ensure cost-effectiveness, performance, and security.
- Automate the deployment and management of infrastructure updates, ensuring zero downtime and smooth rollbacks.
3. Influencing AWS Architecture:
- Provide thought leadership and guidance on AWS architecture, ensuring best practices for security, scalability, and performance.
- Collaborate with development and operations teams to design and implement highly available and fault-tolerant systems.
- Evaluate and recommend AWS services and third-party tools that can enhance the architecture and development process.
- Drive cloud architecture improvements, reducing complexity and increasing the team's ability to deliver.
4. Automating Toil:
- Identify and eliminate manual, repetitive tasks (toil) by designing automation solutions for various operational processes.
- Use tools like Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or AWS Systems Manager to automate configuration management and environment setup.
- Automate routine monitoring, alerting, and maintenance tasks, freeing up engineering time for more strategic work.
5. Adding Observability and SRE Features:
- Implement and enhance observability across infrastructure and applications using tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, or ELK Stack.
- Work with development teams to ensure SRE best practices are incorporated, such as SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
- Improve the reliability of services through enhanced monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting systems.
- Lead incident management and post-incident reviews, contributing to ongoing system reliability improvements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps engineering with a focus on AWS cloud services.
- Strong proficiency in AWS services, including CodeDeploy, EC2, ECS, Lambda, RDS, CloudFront, VPC, S3, CloudFormation, IAM.
- Proven experience in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using CodeDeploy, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar tools.
- Expertise in infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Proficient in scripting languages (Python, Bash, etc.) for automation tasks.
- Experience in automating infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or AWS Systems Manager.
- Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Datadog, etc.) and implementing SRE practices.
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration using Docker, ECS, Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, security best practices, and performance optimization in AWS environments.
Qualification:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Relevant certifications in emerging technologies
