About the Role
AVEVA’s Cloud DevOps (CDO) function is accountable for the operation of all AVEVA cloud solutions with the goal of achieving and maintaining a minimum monthly service availability SLA of 99.95%.
As a Cloud DevOps Manager, you will lead a team of CDO Engineers to continually improve and develop AVEVA’s Cloud solutions, including release and deployment processes and pipelines, enhancing, and supporting our monitoring capabilities, and diagnosing and resolving cloud infrastructure incidents to optimize uptime and allow us to scale through repeatable and standardized work practices.
You will play a management role in the team planning, organisation, and co-ordination, both in your and close liaison with other CDO teams located in UK and US.
As a leader you will empower and help your team by learning, exhibiting, and mentoring the Cloud DevOps (India) team in designing, developing, and maintaining the security, governance, reporting and operational monitoring frameworks used for AVEVA’s cloud products.
Key Accountabilities
To administer, motivate and facilitate direct and indirect reports in order for them to achieve the optimum individual performance and contribute to overall group and wider department performance
To be a strong and active practitioner of agile software development processes and practices and ensure they are adhered to by the entire team
To ensure team met readiness criteria and actively participate in pre-planning activities and during PI planning event to ensure team can commitment to delivery of an agreed PI plan and subsequent delivery in proceeding PI
To work with the head of department, other regional CDO managers on capacity planning, recruitment, skill needs and training programmes and support the management in achieving the AVEVA Business plan
Coordination with development manager colleagues in product scrum team/s, cross-team initiatives to share knowledge and best practice principles and techniques
Proactive input to regular 1:1 weekly meeting with manager and subsequent follow-up actions and in turn 1:1 meeting with your direct reports
Carry out all required appraisal and objective setting responsibilities in line with AVEVA HR and R&D function guidelines
To Identify and communicate key risks that need to be effectively communicated upwards to management along with associated action plans to mitigation risk
Continually develop and improve DevOps processes, adding value through optimization, automation, and effective reporting
Review and provide guidance on cloud architectures from security, high availability, disaster recovery and operational effectiveness / efficiency perspectives
Provide subject matter expertise to business stakeholders as required
Maintain high quality documentation and be able to communicate effectively at all levels within the Organisation as well as with customers
Stay current on security industry trends, tools, and best practices
To give continuous attention to the team’s backlog and ensure people are allocated appropriately and in line with sprint plans
To contribute to on-going Cloud Readiness and related Operational developments in a technical capacity and to enable members of the team to engage in and steer technical direction and decision making, supported by well managed and documented advance designs
To proactively ensure that cloud solutions are delivered that conform to agreed AVEVA cloud register criteria and more general quality, design, technical and completeness guidelines, using appropriate tooling and technology
To undertake the role of Scrum master responsibilities, ensuring that projects are delivered in line with AVEVA’s use of Agile methodologies and modern tooling, promoting best practices and behaviors that produce results as needed
Required skills and experience
Ability to learn and adapt quickly
A minimum of 12 years’ experience in Software Development and Design using modern web technologies and supporting toolsets including source control, static code analysis and CI/CD tooling
Experience of automated deployment technologies for cloud infrastructure creation and management
An on-going and active interest in modern software tools, techniques and processes and a willingness to continually modernize and improve
Highly skilled facilitator and organizer
Proven experience of managing, leading and coaching technical teams
Strong management and leadership able to manage teams based in various locations
Will challenge conventional thinking, managing risk and influencing a broad cross-section of stakeholders
Builds rapport and robust relationships as well as influencing at all levels
Resilience and resourcefulness to make change happen
AWS and/or Azure Cloud experience. Must have a willingness to work on and learn both AWS and Azure
Strong, relevant, development background
Experience or strong motivation to focus on DevOps
Exposure to programming skills, e.g. C#, .NET
Knowledge of PowerShell or Node JS scripting
Knowledge of API, REST, microservices and serverless architecture
Certifications in Azure and/or AWS
Great skills to have
Experience with cloud infrastructure governance. For example, cross account or subscription management, setting up and configuring security, logging, or governance services
Cloud infrastructure experience, at scale - Design, Deployment, Operation
Networking experience, knowledge. DNS, HTTPS, TCP, etc
Ability to guide development teams designing cloud solutions and preparing for operations
Experience with monitoring and alerting
Full stack web development experience
Linux, and strong focus on automation, command line, scripting etc.
Experience using Docker and ideally Kubernetes
Experience as an architect
Operational experience, on-call support
Database experience - administration, development, and tuning
Hands-on experience working within an Information Security accredited framework e.g. ISO27001, 27017/18
Experience working in Agile software development such as Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
