Job Title:                                 Programme Officer – Documentation and Communication

Contract:                                  Annual contract with the possibility of renewal based on performance


Compensation:                        INR 10,80,000 per annum


 


The British Asian Trust, in partnership with the Oak Foundation, is supporting a programme aimed at empowering children, young people, and migrant workers in the tea garden districts of West Bengal. This initiative will bring together a coalition of organisations operating along the source-transit-destination corridor in the Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, and Darjeeling districts. The goal is to unite children, families, community-based institutions, migrant workers, and state actors to take collective action that enables children to reach their potential, strengthens communities, and promotes safe migration.


The Programme Officer- Documentation and Communication will be responsible for documenting, reporting on the programme’s achievements, best practices, and disseminating learnings & case studies to relevant stakeholders within the British Asian Trust (BAT) and externally, in consultation with the reporting manager. They will ensure the development of culturally sensitive communication materials to raise community awareness through British Asian Trust partners and government departments across the Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Alipurduar districts in West Bengal. Additionally, the officer will document proceedings of Consortium Meetings, disseminate minutes and relevant information to the consortium, visibilise the programme and its impact and ensure effective communication between BAT, its partners, and all stakeholders.Roles and responsibilities


Roles and responsibilities


Information Collation, Analysis and Reporting :


  • Compile comprehensive information and content for major donor reports and other internal stakeholders, including gathering data (both quantitative and qualitative) from partners, verifying accuracy, and preparing reports. This will include regular contact with partners for our programmes in West Bengal
  • Develop detailed, high-quality analytical reports that highlight key achievements, field learnings, and any deviations from planned activities for internal and external review and discussion.
  • Collaborate with the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Manager to gather and verify information required for donor reporting.

Communication Channels:


  • Create content for concept notes on various themes and issues as needed to support programme proposals and communication efforts.
  • Design and implement social & behaviour change communication strategies, including the development of content for print and media within the context of the communities that we work with and related audiences
  • Support the dissemination of information about British Asian Trust’s initiatives and achievements to stakeholders in West Bengal through well-documented case studies, good practice documents, and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials for sharing with British Asian Trust’s UK office, key donors, and relevant stakeholders.

Stakeholder Engagement:


  • Facilitate knowledge sharing among consortium partners and stakeholders through participation in workshops, meetings, and other relevant events.
  • Develop and leverage relationships with key stakeholders
  • Enhance the effectiveness of project initiatives by promoting the exchange of information, cross-learning, and sharing among British Asian Trust partners.
  • Work towards increasing the visibility of the consortium and British Asian Trust’s work in the “Tea Gardens” of West Bengal, in collaboration with the Programme Officer and the Programme Manager.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Communication, Social Science/s, Development (E)
  • Relevant experience of 5 years working in the areas of child protection and rights (D)
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills (E)
  • Exceptional writing skills and good speaking skills in English and Hindi and/orBengali (E)
  • Experience of developing social and behaviour change communication materials, strategies (D)
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders including communities and government departments (E)
  • Proficient in MS Office - Word, Powerpoint and Excel (E)
  • Be well versed and informed of the challenges faced by communities in Tea Gardens. (D)
