PRODUCTION COACH
HAMMOND, IN - PLANT


*MUST BE ABLE TO WORK ALL SHIFTS


As a member of the Operations team, the Production Coach will be responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of production workers, interpreting specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigning duties and taking appropriate action to effectively communicate where necessary and making observations which may impact Lear’s ability to manufacture a quality product and to achieve an on-time delivery.


The Role:


Your work will include, but not be limited to:


  • Directly supervises production employees.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
  • Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.  Coaches are responsible for the development and competency of Team Leads, and should meet with Team Leads daily, including at start and end of each shift.
  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustment of machines
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists worker in solving work problems
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals
  • Maintains attendance, time and production records
  • Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials
  • Identify and record any problems related to the product, process and quality system
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Control further processing, delivery or installation of nonconforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • Be knowledgeable of the plant safety rules and ensure all employees perform their duties in compliance with the rules and regulations.
  • Take every reasonable precaution for the protection of the employees.
  • Hold employees accountable for their health and safety responsibilities.  Consistently and fairly enforce the safety rules and safe work procedures.
  • Provide continuous on the job instruction in safe work procedures and instruct employees in the use and care of personal protective equipment.
  • Perform daily walk-throughs of their area to detect hazards and to ensure good housekeeping is maintained
  • Respond to safety concerns and ensure hazards are corrected as soon as possible
  • Perform accident investigations to identify the root cause in the required time frame and track corrective actions to completion
  • Ensure the TPA receives all Fast-Fax forms following an accident within 48 hours and the Health and Safety contact person is notified
  • Encourage and actively support employee involvement in the health and safety program
  • Coaches are responsible to adhere to standard work as defined by the Production Manager.  The Standard Work includes but is not limited to the following:
    • Daily attendance of HPWT shift start meetings
    • Waste Walks
    • Continuous Improvement activities
    • Gemba Walks
    • Training Plans and training documentation (to be completed weekly)
    • Scrap Reviews (daily)
    • Takt time analysis and improvement
  • Contact and coordinate work plans with outside contractors, vendors, suppliers
  • Maintain plant equipment records, documentation, drawings, and facility layouts
  • Identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures
  • Reviews proposed development projects for entitlement and infrastructure needs; makes recommendations as appropriate.

Your Qualifications:


  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, specifically Excel and Word for production reporting and documentation
  • Problem Solving proficiency, including basic PDCA, Fishbone, 5 Why, Kaizen
  • Ability to operate proficiently in HR software to document attendance, payroll, etc.
  • Ability to use ERP and MES software proficiently (AS400)

  •  Previous experience supervising production workers
