No one product or team works on its own. We consider the entire ecosystem when creating new features, content, immersive experiences and platforms. When design works in unison with product, engineering, marketing, sales and our event team, all of our products and teams work in unison to serve customer needs and we bring more value to their lives and our own. 


Who we’re looking for


We are looking for a passionate product designer with vision, creativity, and a savvy for both the aesthetic and structural aspects of UX design to collaborate with engineering, product and other TechCrunch partners on TechCrunch experiences expressed across desktop, mobile web, newsletter, social and live events. The ideal candidate excels in a collaborative work environment and is able to digest and synthesize short and long term business needs and product goals.


Responsibilities


Product designers at TechCrunch collaborate with partners to define the vision for new features, while owning and driving the craftsmanship for every interaction and visual design detail. Day-to-day, you will:


  • Turn broad, ambiguous user and business challenges into clear, valuable solutions;


  • Incorporate standard methodologies across multiple platforms and devices;


  • Contribute to design and engineering processes; and


  • Working within the TechCrunch design palette, create design solutions  final assets that meet product requirements and satisfy readers across several formats


  • Working directly with writers, and with Sales (in the US and a handful of int'l writers), create custom graphics for news stories executed across web, newsletter, social posts, youtube, and more, custom asset designs for website sponsorships (like display ad work), and custom designs and mock up as part of the RFP/pre-sale and client engagement process


  • Introduce new patterns as necessary


About you


You're likely to succeed in this roll, if you are someone who:


  • Draws on all aspects of product design—information architecture, multi-step flows, motion—to create comprehensive experiences;


  • Delivers consistent, polished and balanced layouts, through typography, color and visual hierarchy;


  • Uses prototypes as a foundational piece of your design process both to identify appropriate solutions and influence collaborators;


  • Solves user problems in creative ways that go beyond obvious, expected solutions;


  • Demonstrates high emotional intelligence when interacting with teammates and other co-workers;


  • Presents designs clearly and confidently to facilitate useful feedback while shifting approach based on the audience feedback and desired outcome;


  • Takes initiative and accountability for timelines and outcomes;


  • Has experience working with a geographically distributed team, including US, EMEA and far-shore engineering teams


Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated ability in digital product design for web and mobile software.


  • Portfolio that demonstrates expertise in visual design, interaction design, prototyping and product thinking.


  • Shown history of leading a user-centered design process from end-to-end.


  • Proficiency in software to build design concepts, prototypes, assets and specifications.


  • Skills such as illustration, interaction design, animation, data visualization, conducting user interviews, front-end programming or data science are a plus!


  • Preferably, experience in publishing, digital media, digital advertising or related fields
