Job Title: Process Safety Engineer – Nuclear & Power

Our Nuclear and Power division is a leading consultancy providing multi-disciplinary engineering support services to all project stages, from concept through to completion, to owners, operators, regulators and suppliers to a diversified set of clients. Within the Nuclear sector, we’re involved across the whole life cycle of the civil nuclear industry, building the next generation of civil nuclear power stations and the first large scale prototype fusion reactor, meeting the challenge of keeping the current nuclear fleet operational and tackling complex decommissioning projects.  With existing relationships with the major operators in the Nuclear and Power sector, we offer a hugely stimulating variety of work, within a team which is rapidly developing to support the delivery of new nuclear build, maintaining the existing nuclear and power generating assets and building net zero energy capabilities. Responsibilities:
The work is varied and may include some or all of the responsibilities mentioned below:


  • Planning and supporting Process Hazard Analysis: ISD, HAZID, ALARP, HAZOP. LOPA/SIL reviews.
  • Toxic dispersion/Fire/Explosion modelling. DNV-Phast software knowledge is an advantage.
  • Undertaking of ATEX/DSEAR risk assessments.
  • Hazardous Area Classification (HAC).
  • Safety Report Preparation.
  • Dealing directly with client representatives, equipment vendors and multidiscipline engineering colleagues to obtain the requited information and to resolve process safety issues.
  • Process safety calculation e.g., relief valve sizing.
  • Conducting hazard analysis and consequence assessment.
  • ALARP justification.
  • Creating event trees and fault trees.

Requirements:


Candidate should possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:


  • Suitable degree in Chemical engineering.
  • Experience working in process and energy related industries.
  • Excellent awareness of process safety engineering and process safety management
  • Experience in consequence modelling and analysis, and risk assessment of hazards such as fire, toxics, and explosion.
  • Experience in DSEAR assessment.
  • Knowledge of various types of hazards in hydrogen, nuclear and other conventional/process industries.
  • Proven knowledge of legislative requirement associated with major hazards, examples of which may include COMAH, Hazardous Substances Consent, Land Use Planning or Offshore Installation (Safety Case).
  • Experience in incident investigation and development of safe operations procedures.
  • Experience in design and development of process systems ranging from concept through preliminary to detailed design alongside the process safety experience will be an added advantage.
  • Working knowledge of process engineering deliverables such as mass and energy balance, PFDs, P&IDs, hydraulic calculation, relief valve sizing, etc will be desirable.
  • Ability to prepare proposals, coordinate bids/proposals and win new projects.
  • Liaising with all stakeholders and responsible for all technical issues related to their area of specialization.
  • Co-ordination with other discipline specialists where areas interface or overlap exist.
