OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

A Confluent Cloud Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining a Confluent Cloud environment, including Kafka clusters, topics, consumer groups, and associated infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance optimization, and secure data streaming operations by designing, deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting Kafka-based applications across the organization.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Manage the installation, configuration, and administration of Confluent Kafka clusters in both cloud and on-premise environments.
• Plan and implement the horizontal and vertical scaling of Kafka clusters to handle increased data throughput and storage requirements.
• Perform day-to-day administration and support functions for Kafka clusters.
• Managing Kafka agents, monitoring performance, scaling clusters, handling failover scenarios, and ensuring high availability. 
• Manage Kafka Connect for integrating data from various sources and optimize Kafka Streams applications for real-time data processing.
• Develop automation scripts using Bash, Python, or Ansible to streamline Kafka operations such as cluster deployment, scaling, and monitoring. Document and share design, build, upgrade, and standard operating procedures.
• Collaborate with development teams to design data streaming solutions that meet business requirements.
• Implement data governance, audit logging, and compliance monitoring for Kafka topics and streams.
• Create documentation of operational tasks, procedures & automated processes and provide support to delivery for technical issues. 
• Knowledge in CI/CD pipelines
• Knowledge in ITSM (Incident/Change/Problem Management)

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: 

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or any related field.
• 8+ years’ experience in IT industry experience with 3+ years of relevant experience in Confluent Cloud Administration.
• In-depth experience with administering Apache Kafka and the Confluent Platform, including Kafka Streams, Kafka Connect, and Schema Registry.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, messaging systems, and data processing principles.
• Proficient in Kafka tooling, command-line utilities, and monitoring frameworks
• Experience in Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment using GIT and MuleSoft is expedient. Source code management using Github is high desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
