As a Senior Oracle Database Administrator, you will be a dedicated member of an application support team at HPE, but report to the IT Database team leadership.  You will support the efficient operation of a set of databases supporting one or more business applications - but will be an integral part of the application team itself.  You will be a part of design, change, review, tuning, troubleshooting, and continual improvement of your designated applications from top to bottom - with your primary responsibility at the Oracle database level.  This will require personal traits such as competency with Oracle database and programming, knowledge of how IT applications use Oracle (and how to harden and optimize this interaction), excellent troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
 

What you’ll do:

• Manage databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
• Become a subject matter expert in the databases and applications you will be assigned.
• Act as the designated, embedded DBA for one or more business applications at HPE.
• Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time and proactively.
• Actively participate in discussions with your application team to solve problems, propose changes in processes and code, and produce better, more robust, and performant business applications.
• Review application code and processes during design, development, and before deployment to ensure that these result in correct and highly performing database interactions.
• Mentor application team members with regards to best-practices in SQL query writing, PL/SQL code, process design for optimal database interaction, etc.
• Effectively work both independently with minimal supervision, as well as working within a team environment
• Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security
• Design and implement processes to manage database configuration, for the databases themselves, and for the environments upon which they run.
• Design and document processes and procedures for use by other team members to consistently manage our database environments.

What you need to bring:

• Senior-level experience with Oracle database administration in an enterprise environment, including all the following:

• Database performance tuning and troubleshooting 
• Writing efficient queries using modern Oracle features (e.g. 12c-19c)
• Query Optimization (rewriting, hints, parallelism, indexing, partitioning, etc)
• Oracle PL/SQL Programming
• Oracle Partitioning (both for performance and for Data Lifecycle Management)
• Understanding how applications interact with the Oracle database engine, especially in a RAC configuration.
• Familiarity with configuration management principles as it applies to the database and its data.

• Real-world experience with Oracle RAC and Oracle ASM
• Solid understanding of computer networking, as it applies to client-to-database connectivity and configuration, firewall traversal and troubleshooting, and Oracle network stack configuration and troubleshooting.
• Ability to work on complex tasks alone or/and supervise other team members.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Experience with Java, C#, and/or Python programming would be beneficial, although not a hard requirement.
• Willingness to continually learn and practice new skills to improve your capability as well as HPE's collective strength.
• Solid understanding of computer networking, as it applies to client-to-database connectivity and configuration, firewall traversal and troubleshooting, and Oracle network stack configuration and troubleshooting.
• Deep familiarity with of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) configurations driven by Oracle Data Guard for physical standby databases.

Education and Experience:

• BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience 
• 8+ or more years of enterprise-class Oracle Database experience.
