Scope of Position:
The Head of APAC Operational Resiliency – Global Delivery is the senior leader accountable for executing the Global Delivery Resiliency Strategy in collaboration with the Global Delivery Head of Operational Resiliency and leading and monitoring the resiliency and continuity programs for Global Delivery APAC. The role is responsible for working with the business teams to comply with State Street corporate resiliency standards and regulatory expectations, and providing strategic direction to businesses in having a comprehensive and credible testing strategy in place to meet those requirements. As a result, the individual is required to have a thorough understanding of business operations. The individual must also build a strong Resiliency structure encompassing business recovery and incidents response management, including planning and goal setting, developing and executing testing programs, facilitate plans during incidents, and leveraging information and communication tools.
The individual will interface closely with and provide influence to Senior and Executive leadership teams in APAC, Enterprise Resiliency teams and Business Units to establish and execute the Global Delivery Resiliency Strategy. The individual is required to build effective relationships and interface with senior levels, regulators, global stakeholders, clients and industry peers. The role has an incident management component that may require non-traditional working hours depending on crisis situations.
The role reports to the global head of Operational Resiliency in Global Delivery.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Head of APAC Operational Resiliency – Global Delivery will work with the Global Delivery Head of Operational Resiliency to execute the Business Continuity Program (BCP) as well as implementing and executing the strategy, followed by governance & cadence mechanisms, around the global Operational Resiliency framework. The individual will provide strategic direction to and oversight of the business operations teams regarding the continued evolution of APAC Business Continuity and Resiliency in line with corporate standards and regulatory expectations. Accordingly, the individual needs to have a thorough understanding of business operations and processing. The individual will execute resiliency strategy for recovery and restarting critical business services, including evaluating the program, plans, procedures and workflows to identify any issues and gaps to be addressed before occurrence of disruptive event. The individual will participate in defining Resiliency Strategy beyond Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, considering sustainability, agility and adaptability the firm needs to adjust to long-term changes in how it operates.
Major responsibilities include:
Execute the Global Business Resiliency strategy in APAC and work with APAC business leaders and Enterprise Continuity Services team to continuously evolve the continuity and resiliency program to proactively respond to regulatory and business changes
Work closely with Business Leaders in creating awareness and elevating Business Continuity and Resiliency as an integral part of risk excellence culture
Maintain and implement corporate standards with debrief of regular mock disaster exercises to test adequacy of existing strategies, updating procedures and plans as necessary
Drive comprehensive program management to maintain a sustainable resiliency environment and monitor resiliency readiness
Develop and report against metrics and key performance indicators meant to assess program health and continuous improvement
Establish and maintain an effective program in alignment with laws and regulations, partnering closely with second and third line of defense partners
Participate in regional industry groups, conferences to gain perspective and concepts to further evolve the program
Deep dive into data, existing processes, people and technology challenges to identify risks and opportunities
Partner with critical business stakeholders to coordinate recovery strategies for their operations as identified through Business Continuity planning process and assist in responding to disruptive events
Drive innovation and transformation with the ability to identify gaps in existing processes and propose best practices in terms of regular deliverables and long term strategy
Building a high performing culture and agile team of professionals to support exceptional services to our stakeholders; apply sound business principles and data analysis to identify problems and initiate actions to address them
Establish credibility across Business Units in APAC, holding business leaders primarily accountable for the quality and effectiveness of continuity plans and incident response
Influence and partner closely with global stakeholders including Enterprise Continuity teams, Control groups and Business leaders in developing the “best in class” Continuity and Resiliency Program for their operations in line with regulatory and business expectations
Establish a strong operating model within the Operational Resiliency function in APAC with continuous training process to build expertise within the team, and leadership capabilities to lead from the front and collaborate with global stakeholders
Mentor team and build leadership capacity to support the strategic and long-term changes
Operate autonomously, use discretion when dealing with sensitive and critical information
Communicate regularly with business teams and senior leaders on incident / event statuses and conformance with corporate standards
Proactively seek counsel from and collaborate with business teams and senior leaders prior to implementing or executing on program changes or project/program deliverables
Qualifications:
15+ years’ experience with establishing and running business continuity programs or managing operations; experience in incident management and response
Experience in or strong understanding of business operations and processing
Solid experience in understanding regulatory expectations and delivering on the same in compressed timeframe
20+ years related industry experience (financial services, banks), including operations experience
Experience and proven track record of understanding, interpreting and delivering on regulatory expectations relating to Business Continuity and Resiliency
Complete knowledge of Business Continuity Management lifecycle, Incident Management, Crisis Management, Disaster Recovery, and Resiliency
Works well under high-pressure and stressful situations
Ability to handle multiple priorities, work on tight deadlines, coupled with a commitment to the highest quality standards and an eye for detail
Experience in program or operations management or played strategic role in advising in-house teams and stakeholders in setting up business resiliency, business continuity programs including incident management
Demonstrates thought leadership and proven relationship management, collaboration and influencing skills at senior levels across lines of business
Demonstrates expertise in project management, analytics, stakeholder engagement, people leadership, leveraging technology
Operate independently with minimal supervision
Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Ability to interface and influence with all levels within the organization in India and across all regions
Understanding of IT concepts and infrastructure is a plus
