About the position:
The Materials Engineer position is responsible for providing materials and corrosion engineering support to Chevrons Refining and Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) assets. This role will support materials selection, damage mechanism reviews/identification, corrosion monitoring and control programs, failure analysis, interpretation of inspection data, critical reliability variable reviews, welding and fabrication guidance, mechanical design review, and equipment repair for Chevron’s complex process facilities. The role is part of the Mechanical Designs Engineering Team at the Chevron ENGINE.
Key responsibilities:
Supports the execution of fixed equipment asset strategies across Chevron’s complex process facilities
Participates in the Management of Change (MOC) process and provides support for facilities’ turnaround planning/execution scope related to material evaluations
The position shall support mechanical equipment fitness for service assessments in accordance with API codes and standards as well as providing support for Root Cause Investigations and other equipment related incidents
Supporting cross functional teams comprised of inspections, technical, operations, and maintenance
Actively works to maintain open and clear communication between Reliability group, Process and Design Engineering, Operations, and Project Services
Participates in the planning and development of engineering work packages for plant turnarounds and capital projects
Supports and updates plant corrosion/Damage Mechanism Reviews as part of the PHA process, Metallurgical Reviews, and Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) plans
Develops and reviews technical specifications relating to materials and corrosion
Mentors inspectors, engineers, and others in materials technologies such as materials selection, welding and fabrication, and corrosion control
Provides guidance on maintenance scope tasks including weld procedures reviews for materials requirements, post-weld heat treat, hydrogen bake-out, and welding applications, and requested Positive Materials Identification (PMI) testing reviews
Provide technical oversight and second level review of inspection findings and recommendations, asset strategy adjustments, and interpretation of inspection data
Required qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree materials engineering/sciences from a recognized (AICTE) university
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in materials and corrosion engineering
Industry experience in supporting asset integrity or materials engineering practices within a complex oil and gas operating environment is preferred
Knowledge of refinery and LNG process technologies will be highly regarded
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1:30pm to 10:30pm.
