The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for managing software testing for Wabtec’s Digital Intelligence Network Operations Terminal suite of products, which include Movement Planner and Yard Planner and may include the Dispatch Product – PDS2 in the future. As a manager of a software test group, you will apply your knowledge of management, software testing methodologies, best practices, and proven processes to deliver a quality software product on budget, within planned schedule with superb quality.  This specific position will manage a set of software test engineers to focus on system level testing for the Terminal suite of products.


The Terminal suite of products includes: -


  • Movement Planner is a simulation-based planning system that integrates the physical model of the network to compute the running times of trains between stations and to forecast arrival/departure times at scheduled stops and waypoints, independent of the scheduled times.


  • Yard Planner is the new product suite offered by Wabtec to its Class I and Short Line Rail customers. Yard Planner offers the management of all the yard activities such as movement of inbound and outbound trains, assignment of tracks and management of work/tasks for the crew. Hump and Flat yard handle functionality of hump and flat yards respectively.


  • PDS 2 is a Cloud-Native application that consists of a set of microservices that are deployed on a Kubernetes-based Container Orchestration Platform. PDS 2 application relies on several services such as Relational Database, Key-Value store, Message Broker(s), Identity Provider, Secrets Manager. PDS 2 uses contemporary DevSecOps practices such as Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment that facilitates deployment strategies such as Rolling, Canary and Blue/Green.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Demonstrate very strong technical leadership and people management skills including solid communication and analytical skills with thorough understanding of product development and successful problem definition, decomposition, estimation and resolution.


  • Able to deliver software product completely tested by the System Testing team for multiple customers across multiple product lines as per the release timelines.


  • Responsible for building a world class software system integration testing team to support the system integration of the Terminal suite of products.


  • Responsible to aligning with cross-functional service team owners to understand scope and designing test strategies for the same.


  • Validate application and services to ensure the product meets all operational standards.


  • Influence decision making through active partnership with cross-functional teams.


  • Coach, mentor and lead a diverse group of lean/agile software test engineers.


  • Work with product owners across the businesses to understand the product scope, needs & vision; quickly translate those into demonstrable test validation criteria.


  • Work directly with customers to understand testing needs of business and technical needs.


  • Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse.


  • Support process improvements which guide the development, sustaining & support activities


  • Support in Senior Leadership reporting by providing metrics.


  • Communicate effectively both within immediate team and Wabtec leadership.  Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy, and results.


  • Lead and focus a product integration testing team of testers to implement, automate and validate the Product deliveries.


  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS, Engineering, or a closely related field of study


  • A minimum of 15 years of professional experience OR Master’s degree with 10 years of experience


  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a testing leadership / management role


  • Lead and mentor team effectively. Able to perform performance reviews


  • Establishes vision, Identifies and champions internal/external best practices, tools, and ideas to improve execution and quality. Drives an organization of efficiency, accountability and ownership.


  • Able to verbalize what is behind decisions and downstream implications. Continuously reflecting on success and failures to improve performance and decision-making.  Understands when change is needed. Participates in technical strategy planning.


  • Build a team of highly technical test engineers to implement and integrate applications using the Wabtec Test Framework


  • Good understanding of test automation using Selenium, REST assured, and other automation tools in a SAFe/Agile environment.


  • Good knowledge of CI/CD to support continuous automation and deployment process.


  • Understanding with testing REST APIs using apps such as Postman and Java packages such as REST assured.


  • Experience with any issue-tracking and agile project management tools such as Rally, xWiki, HP ALM etc.


  • Knowledge of cloud technologies in AWS.

  • Good understanding of System Testing strategies by developing test strategies and framework.


  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions.


  • Able to review team members’ work related to estimation, test strategy, test cases, test results and other work products generated by the team.


  • Ability to respond positively to feedback and implement change in process and procedures as needed.


  • Defines Test Strategy. Lays out test roadmap for all the products. Uses industry trends to define test strategies and test plans.


  • Understand the problems from a customer perspective and suggest creative solutions.


  • Demonstrates awareness about railroad industry, with knowledge on competitors and industry trends


  • Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts.


  • Evangelizes the notion that anything worth doing takes repeated effort and failure. Drives the organization and team toward a continued excitement of attaining the vision and goal in the face of resistance.


  • Continuously measures deliverables of self and team against scheduled commitments. Effectively balances different, competing objectives.


  • Travel requirement may be 10%-20% annually, for customer and quarterly planning activities.
