Manager, Engineering

Summary of the role


Amadeus Airport IT R&D organization is responsible for the development and delivery of state-of-the-art Airport Management Solutions, which includes - Airport operations system, Resource management, Passenger Processing Systems etc. These cloud-based solutions / products are used by Airports for their day-to-day operations.


At Amadeus Software Labs Bengaluru, we are have engineering teams working on the development and delivery of some of the critical roadmap features. To continue in this journey, we are looking for smart, flexible, and world-class engineers to works very closely with global teams in the development and delivery with direct benefit to the end customers - the Airports.


As Development Manager you will be leading a team responsible for software development, product definition and quality activities. 


You will be responsible for technical solutions, sizing, guiding the team during development - delivery excellence / quality and NFR aspects of the application. This job involves a mix of team management, project management skills and direct technical initiatives involving analytics, architecture design etc. The person should have played / worked in global companies with the ability to own and drive initiatives that span across different office locations.


The candidate should have had exposure to latest development tools, technologies and practices and should continuously work in adopting those practices in Amadeus so that the productivity of the developers is enhanced.


Your main responsibilities 


Team management


  • Hire the right people to growth and consolidate your team. The team is composed of 1 scrum team working on History and Dashboard solutions of AMS
  • Manage local team members in the delivery of all committed projects on-time, on-scope, adhering to Amadeus corporate standards, methodologies, and quality.
  • Follow Safe methodology, ensure good integration of the team in AMS train. 
  • Define team objectives and translate them into individual objectives for each team member in line with organizational goals
  • Evaluates team and individual performance, provide input for salary review
  • Develop team(s) based on continuous assessment
  • Motivate and guide individual team members to stretch and expand their own capabilities (knowledge, way of working, communication etc.…)
  • Define and share the technical/functional team roadmap and vision according to the department/division/company objectives
  • Report on team activities
  • Assessing high potentials and supporting their development.
  • Plan succession pipeline within his team.

Technical Excellence


·    Responsible for Architecture and Design of the application. Have scalable architecture keeping in mind future needs. Interface with architecture board and experts for major architecture change and technology choice.


  • Identify unclear requests and possible impacts and ensure the requests are clarified by/with the relevant party before providing design, and sizing
  • Develop plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges
  • Responsible to build accurate sizing for development, testing, deployment, documentation, interaction with 3rd parties and long-term support
  • Support risk analysis for projects and act for mitigating and managing risks
  • Highly contribute to define and build the components strategy and be responsible for its deployment, releasing, evolution & maintenance
  • Communicate, share, explain and ensure buy-in on component strategy & evolution
  • Ensure quality responsibilities & mind-set is shared by each stakeholder of the development cycle to contribute to service stability effort.

Problem Solving


  • Proactively monitor and identify reoccurring problems and propose persistent long-term solutions
  • Perform an in-depth analysis to identify unclear requests and possible impacts and ensure the requests are clarified by/with the relevant party before providing design, and sizing in coordination with the team
  • Suggest alternatives / improvements / new techniques in processes, flows, operational models and plans. 
  • Support internal/external customers when required (Customer facing meetings, demo preparations, etc.)
  • Moderate budgetary impact on business

Innovation 


  • Build/manage a team fostering a collaborative work environment which promotes innovation and empowerment

·       Promote continuous improvements on product development stability, availability and reliability.

  • Encourage and involve team members in introducing change and decision making whenever possible

  • Develop plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges

  • Ensure internal related processes and procedures are executed properly. 
  • Demonstrate strong sense of responsibility for company assets, be proactive against security vulnerabilities and breaches
  • Support Management by preparing materials and reports to the functional area
  • Cascade management decisions within his and other organizations

About the ideal candidate 


·       Skills / Competencies / Experience:


·       Experience in the software development lifecycle (including product design, coding, testing, version & configuration management, security, quality assurance, Implementation, Product Management, Service Delivery) relevant to the functional area.


  • Experience working in large-sized eCommerce applications
  • Experience in delivering SOA, event driven architectures, cloud and REST Services using Java, Spring, UI, Angular, JavaScript.
  • Experience in distributed systems, web technologies, design patterns, DevOps, UX, Angular and Cloud technologies
  • Experience in Splunk development including Splunk architecture, development of custom Splunk application with dashboard and reports. 
  • Good knowledge of industry trends in Cloud, ML and Data Analytics etc.
  • Comfortable in a multi-cultural, international organization

·       Demonstrated ability to adapt fast and manage changing roles


  • An Engineering Degree with 10+ years of relevant Industry experience

·       Investigate new technologies, learn new methods and innovation


·       Subject matter expert on Knowledge on the complete software development lifecycle


·       Advanced level of written and oral English communication skills


·       Knowledge of travel industry


·       Strong team player with collaborative mindset
