Job Description: Lake Monitoring Intern
Location: Southern and Western India (Telangana, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra)
Type: Part-time
Stipend: 5,000 INR per month
Bonus: 2,500 INR per lake that meets Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) conditions
Hours: Approximately 20+ hours per month
About the Role:
Liquid Trees is seeking a passionate Lake Monitoring Intern to join our environmental team. In this role, you will help identify lakes that meet specific conditions for our sustainability projects, with a focus on scouting lakes that show potential for harmful algal blooms (HABs). This part-time role requires travel to various lakes in your region, photographing and documenting them for our analysis. You will be contributing to the important mission of assessing water bodies for environmental interventions.
Stipend and Bonus Structure:
Monthly Stipend: 5,000 INR
Bonus: 2,500 INR for each lake that, after further investigation, is confirmed to have HABs.
Key Responsibilities:
-Lake Scouting: You will scout and document a minimum of 20 lakes per month, ensuring that they meet the basic condition of having a minimum area of 0.025 km² (which can be verified remotely).
-On-Site Documentation: Upon visiting lakes, you will document further conditions including:
*Minimum depth of 1.5 meters.
*Accessibility by boat.
*No macrophyte cover on the water surface.
*Visible indications of eutrophic conditions (e.g., green water, dense microalgae, or algal mats).
*Water Sampling: Once a lake is confirmed as potentially suitable for further work, you will proceed with water sampling and coordinate with our laboratory for analysis.
-Reporting: You will work independently, communicating findings and sharing photographs with our team online for verification.
Expectations:
-Visit and document at least 20 lakes per month that meet the initial area requirement.
-A 2,500 INR bonus will be awarded for each lake that, after site visits and analysis, is confirmed to have HABs.
-The ability to travel and explore remote lakes in your region is essential.
