We’re proud to have been helping our clients build better financial futures for over 50 years. How have we achieved this? By working together - and supporting each other - all over the world. So, join our the Kubernetes Container team and feel like you’re part of something bigger.
About your team
The Container Platform team is responsible for all aspects of designing, building and operating our enterprise-scale platform that will host tens of thousands of app instances. It’s an inspiring time to join; there is ample opportunity to drive design choices as we are in the early stages of deploying our greenfield Kubernetes platform on AWS EKS.
About your role
The Kubernetes Engineer will progress the development and support of the FIL Container platform to create solutions that better serve the business and ultimately the customer. You will participate in all areas of the platform operations; work to identify challenges, research/propose solutions and drive them through to production.
As a member of the team you will be able to take ownership of pointed MVPs; reaching a consensus with the team/Product Owner and implement them in an iterative fashion. Previous experience of working with production systems/release pipelines is a must.
The platform goes live in December 2023 as an MVP for early adopters. We expect siginifcant migrations from our existing Cloud Foundry PaaS hosting thousands of applications to onboard in 2024, alongside several exciting new use-cases.
We provide 2nd line operational support for the production platform environments, advising our developer centric customer base, and troubleshooting key areas of the Kubernetes stack. This will involve being a member of the on call 24/7 rota.
About you
You are knowledgable in software engineering best practices (including the GitOps model, DevOps, Clean Code), automating platform deployments, and programming to industry standards. You are comfortable pair-programming and guiding other members of your team in building robust solutions.
The role requires ‘hands-on’ engineering skills in at least one programming language, ideally Python, but experience in any major language (JAVA/C#) is useful. You also have experience of distributed systems and integration patterns; typical triaging involves network/firewall/integration debugging.
You are proficient in bash scripting and testing, to automate Kubernetes component CLI tools to interact with the platform. You have prior experience building cloud native solutions in AWS (or another major CSP - Azure/GCP) and have a proven tack-record operating Kubernetes production workloads at enterprise scale.
You deploy both application and infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code principles (using Terraform) via CI/CD pipelines and are confident in a major pipeline tool (Concourse/Jenkins/ArgoCD).
You come from a strong networking background and understand both on-premises and cloud concepts. You are are well-versed in the essentials (CIDRs, subnetting, standard protocols e.g. TCP/UDP, firewalls, routing, loadbalancing, DNS etc) and can articulate these concepts to newer members of the team.
You are adept with the Linux operating system and are at ease interacting with the platform via CLI rather than using GUIs.
Feel rewarded
For starters, we’ll offer you a comprehensive benefits package. We’ll value your wellbeing and support your development. And we’ll be as flexible as we can about where and when you work – finding a balance that works for all of us.
