The Welding Engineer (IWE) is responsible for overseeing welding processes and ensuring that all welding operations comply with industry standards and safety regulations. The role involves designing welding procedures, training staff, inspecting welding work, and collaborating with other departments to ensure the highest quality and efficiency in welding projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop Welding Procedures:
Design and develop welding procedures and specifications.
Conduct welding procedure qualification tests (PQR) and prepare welding procedure specifications (WPS).
Quality Control and Assurance:
Ensure welding operations comply with industry standards, codes, and customer requirements.
Perform weld inspections, non-destructive testing (NDT), and evaluate test results.
Implement quality control processes and documentation.
Technical Support:
Provide technical support and guidance to welders and welding operators.
Troubleshoot welding issues and implement corrective actions.
Advise on the selection of welding equipment and materials.
Training and Development:
Conduct training sessions for welders and other staff on proper welding techniques and safety protocols.
Stay updated with the latest welding technologies and advancements.
Project Management:
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of welding projects.
Monitor and report on welding project progress, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all welding activities adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
International Welding Engineer (IWE) certification.
Experience:
Minimum of 6-10 years of experience in welding engineering or a related field.
Proven experience in developing and implementing welding procedures and specifications.
Skills and Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, etc.).
Familiarity with welding codes and standards (e.g., AWS, ASME, ISO).
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in welding simulation software and other relevant tools.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
