About this role


Role Description:


As a member of the India Investment Advisory Compliance Team - this individual will work closely with their regional and global compliance counterparts to enhance and ensure a globally consistent Compliance framework for BlackRock’s businesses in India


This role focuses on supporting the Private Markets strategy in India, including providing compliance and regulatory coverage to an Indian AIF manager, and maintaining FPI regulations.


We are seeking an individual with exceptionally strong regulatory and advisory compliance experience with either a strong track record in asset management, a buy-side financial services firm or sell-side banking institution.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Be the main point of contact for SEBI regulations, particularly FPI and AIF regulations. Prior experience in dealing with SEBI is hence preferred.


  • Supporting the Private Markets strategy in India, including any FPI and AIF related initiatives.


  • Review and implementation of Compliance policies and procedures


  • Providing advice and guidance to business teams with respect to:


    • compliance with local, regional and global laws, regulations, best practices and BlackRock’s policies and procedures; and


    • based on a strong understanding of BlackRock’s fiduciary obligations and its commercial and business objectives.


  • Collaboration with Financial Crime, Legal and Risk & Quantitative Analysis and other corporate functions in the provision of advice and guidance to investment teams.


  • Participation in global and/or regional compliance initiatives to ensure global best practices and consistency including in the regional coordination of tasks.


  • Assisting in maintaining the integrity of BlackRock’s information barriers and Conflicts of Interest policy


  • Monitoring local and regional regulatory developments and evaluating their impact on the business by working with stakeholders.


  • Liaising with regional and global compliance and business colleagues as necessary in global initiatives.

Given the focus on India and Private Markets Investments as a strategy at the firm, this role assumes significant importance. The candidate has an opportunity to be involved in global and regional initiatives and will receive on the job training, acquiring product knowledge and exposure to multiple cross border legal and regulatory requirements.


Knowledge/Experience:


  • University degree in Law/Finance/Accounting/Business/Economics preferred.


  • Good understanding of financial industry and financial products


  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and Power points.


  • Understanding of regulation in the financial industry


Skills/Qualifications:


  • A minimum of 7 years relevant working experience in investment or regulatory compliance in asset management, a buy-side global financial services firm or sell-side banking institution. 


  • Previous experience in dealing with SEBI and an understanding of the regulatory environment for alternative investments for India is preferred.


  • An understanding of private market asset management compliance programs (e,g. controls around Insider Trading regulations and managing Conflicts of Interests)


  • An understanding of financial crime such as AML and Anti Bribery and Corruption issues in India


  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English.


  • Strong attention to detail.


  • Ability to interact and negotiate with key internal and external business stakeholders.


  • Strong written/oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to interact with teams at all levels and work with colleagues across geographies in a matrix driven organization
