Team: Structures – Thermal Solutions
The Thermal Solutions team is a part of the Analysis group under the Structures department and plays a key role providing solutions through assessment of structural integrity of aircraft structures/assemblies.
The team extends competencies in the area of Thermal and Multiphysics analysis using FE/FV and CFD based methods.
The internship needs to support a new activity to develop a numerical model for polymer fire risk assessment for material qualification.
The intern will be responsible for support in literature survey, conceptualization, methodology development and validation of the numerical model to deliver accurate predictions on polymer degradation, toxicity and smoke emission.Hence the job holder should have the ability to work in agile mode.
Role: To support numerical model methodology development for material fire risk assessment studies.
Technical skills required:
∙ Understanding of standards for laboratory tests for studying material decomposition kinetics, flammability and ignitability.
∙ Strong fundamentals on Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, Chemical kinetics and fire retardant material properties.
∙ Preferable knowledge of numerical modeling, 1D analysis and CFD (computational fluid dynamic) methods and tools.
Ability to explore open source tools
Tools: Chemkin, Ansys Fluent
Programming language: Basics knowledge of programming C, Python etc.
