Job Purpose:
The role is part of the Global Accounting function at ISS, supporting the implementation of our financial accounting and reporting agenda across all regions and business units.
The role will ensure:
• The business is provided with support and training on the IFRS Group accounting policies and operating procedures and the HFM consolidation system
• Local financial controllers are held accountable for delivering timely and accurate reporting, and potential issues are identified, raised, and resolved on a timely basis
• The ISS Group financial results are consolidated correctly and reported to relevant stakeholders on a monthly, quarterly,y and annual basis
• The external audit is completed with minimal issues and on a timely basis
• Group-wide initiatives are understood and supported from an accounting perspective (including restructuring, new business models, and post-acquisition integration)
• Clear technical guidance is provided to the business (including written technical accounting papers) on a range of matters related to accounting and reporting.
• The integrity of the HFM consolidation system is maintained, and regular updates and improvements are implemented to support high-quality reporting and analysis
The role requires an experienced Group Accountant who will bring energy, technical expertise, and a solution-oriented mindset to address challenges and manage priorities. The role will also need to liaise with senior internal stakeholders, and good communication skills are a key requirement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Financial Accounting and Reporting (50%)
· Prepare and review parts of the monthly financial reporting (for example, Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement and supplementary information), ensuring it is compliant with the IFRS Group accounting policies and reported to all stakeholders on a timely basis
· Identify significant movements in the month/quarter/year and work with regional and local financial controllers to understand the reason for these movements and resolve any issues
· Prepare and review Group consolidation adjustments to be posted in Hyperion
· Review and analyse foreign currency transactions in financial reporting systems and verify that FX gains and losses have been calculated correctly and reported in the right line item
· Develop an in-depth knowledge of the financial reporting systems used by the company (Hyperion and Unit4 Financials) to be able to advise end-users on the way that different transactions should be reported in the system.
· Prepare high-level analysis and communication for senior stakeholders.
· Provide best-in-class technical accounting advice to the business through informal communication with local financial
controllers, as well as technical accounting papers
2. External Audit (20%)
· Support the Group audit process. Work directly with the external audit team, providing them with high-quality information to ensure the audit is completed on time.
· Support with the preparation of the consolidated Group financial statements and lead on the preparation of individual company financial statements (mainly UK statutory accounts)
Technical Advice and Projects (30%)
· Support the identification and mitigation of accounting risks across the Group.
· Develop current reporting process to drive improved compliance and efficiency. Support the implementation of improvements and updates to the Hyperion consolidation system.
· Provide ad-hoc analysis as required by the Global teams, including Accounting, Corporate Finance, Treasury, Tax, Internal Audit, Legal, and HR.
· Support the implementation of new reporting requirements for compliance with standards and regulations and to meet the expectations of different stakeholders
· Support the Global Accounting team with the development of the Group accounting policies, ensuring they evolve with the business and driving adherence globally.
Support the roll out of a robust Financial Accounting and Reporting control environment that adheres to the Group policies and embeds best practice across the business.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Essential:
· Excellent knowledge of IFRS, consolidation, and statutory accounting
· Experience as group accountant
· Experience in working in a multi-national, multi-cultural organisation
· Excellent communication skills and a good command of the English language
· Ability to communicate and coordinate with various levels of colleagues and stakeholders
· Experience in working on a group consolidation system
· Experience in financial risk management and enforcing control environment
· Good time management
· Open to change and new ideas
Desirable:
· Knowledge of Hyperion Financial Management system
· Knowledge of Unit4 Financials
· Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley or another internal controls framework
· Experience in working on a GL accounting system
· Experience as a financial auditor
