Summary Of position:
The Tax Consultant role will be responsible for tax research, support, reconciliation, and review of US payroll income taxes, SUI rates, Garnishment withholdings, and employee inquires via Service NOW. Additionally, US Tax Manager will be responsible for interfacing with the Tax Compliance and Tax Accounting groups to ensure accurate and timely federal and multi-state income tax compliance and reporting. This role will also work on payroll income tax reporting and planning activities associated with Alcon’s US Ventures and Acquisitions process.
Key Requirements:
Research, quantify, document and support tax positions taken on US payroll income tax returns.
Support the preparation and review of various tax calculations and US payroll income tax returns and forms applicable to the domestic and international activity of Alcon’s US entities.
Support the tax reporting of activity including review of tax provisions, tax estimates and pre- and post-acquisition payroll tax returns.
Determine the proper tax treatment and reporting of identified tax risk areas and complete necessary tax documentation.
Work on the implementation of post-acquisition integration plans from a tax standpoint and the integration of acquired entities into the Alcon legal and operating structure.
Interface with the Tax Compliance and Tax Accounting groups to ensure tax positions are reported accurately.
Coordinate with tax, target entity finance and Alcon controllership to support tax returns, integration, acquisition related escrows, audits, and other target tax matters.
Track and reconcile various deductions, such as garnishments and child support, in addition to deductions for employees on unpaid leave.
Monitor quarterly tax filings and balance FICA with off-cycle adjustments
Responsible for collecting, reviewing, and analyzing payroll information to effectively administer involuntary deductions from pay, such as child support, state and federal tax levies and the like
Familiar with multi-state taxation, including SUI and reciprocity rules
Work with 3rd party vendor to monitor tax rates and ADP
Reconcile payroll tax reporting after each pay run to ensure accurate filings by tax service provider
Experience reconciling and preparing W-2 and W-2C forms
Reconcile Payroll reports to 941s and W-2s
Ensure garnishments are applied and completed in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations to ensure the deductions are applied appropriately and accounts can be closed for financial reporting
Respond to Service Now ticket enquiries from employees
Monitor the regulatory environment to stay abreast of internal and regulatory compliance requirements
Manage all Special Payroll, Garnishments and Tax reporting requirements
Review, process and respond to garnishment orders
Quarterly payroll tax reconciliations/year-end reconciliation
Process off-cycle adjustments needed for quarterly and annual reconciliations
Work on internal/external audit controls
Register Alcon in new jurisdictions for tax filing
Correspond with federal/state/local tax jurisdictions
Setup of new jurisdictions in Smart Compliance
Monitor and setup tax profiles for workers with Visas eligible for exemption
Manually perform payroll calculations
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum 2+ years relevant payroll tax, corporate tax, or Big 4 experience
Graduate degree in Accounting/Finance is an added advantage
Preferred Qualifications:
US tax experience in a multinational company or professional services firm (preferred)
Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Proficiency in Workday, ADP Smart Compliance, and SAP.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Experience in handling a high volume of activity involving multiple projects simultaneously.
Flexible to work in US shift.
