Head R&D IGTS-MoS Premium Segment


The Philips Healthcare Innovation Center (HIC), located in Pune, India, is pivotal in enabling Customer Innovation in healthcare for Philips across the globe. HIC is an innovation, end-to-end product development, and manufacturing facility for Philips, committed to patient safety and quality. As a multi-business modality hub, HIC innovates across product lines, including Image-Guided Therapy (IGT), Precision Diagnosis, and Connected Care. Teams of R&D, design, software developers, mechatronics & product marketing work together to build a product starting from market requirement understanding until delivery. Products innovated and manufactured at HIC are launched/ shipped in both Indian and global markets.


HIC Pune is the global head-quarters for the IGT Mobile Surgery (MoS) business and it has a significant R&D presence for the Precision Diagnosis Cluster. The Philips portfolio of image-guided therapy solutions help innovate medical equipment  for advance minimally invasive surgeries with  sharp, detailed images.



Your role:



The Group Leader manages the R&D and implementation process of products and services. Coordinates sector, departmental or cross-functional teams, focused on delivering new or upgrading existing products. Monitors development from initiation through delivery including planning and directing schedules and monitoring budget/spending. Organizes cross-functional activities, ensuring development is on schedule and within budget constraints. Supervises, hires and fires, selects, develops, coaches and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the development function. Assesses emerging technologies and may determine how to map them into product development roadmaps. Keeps abreast of technical developments through literature, technical contacts, and industry competition. Ensures compliance with product lifecycle and development procedures and processes as well as all applicable quality and regulatory requirements.


  • Drive E2E Product & Solutions realizations, new product introductions and life cycle sustenance for premium product portfolio
  • Lead Multi-Disciplinary R&D team of System Engineering, Mechatronics and Project Management
  • Member of the R&D Management Team and determines, in consultation with the Management Team, the department’s objectives, policies, processes and budgets on short and long term
  • Implement proven technical concept, Design Transfer to supplier & Production
  • Manage customer experience and Production support
  • Drive Patient Safety and Quality improvements
  • Drive R&D Efficiency and productivity through platformization, Agile, Automation and AI.
  • Manages capabilities of the department; to develop and maintain a long-term view on the required competences and knowledge to introduce new technology.
  • Ensures that there are adequate resources and tools at the proper time, is responsible for the technology and architecture in the department and is responsible for maintaining and improving the department’s knowledge and expertise.
  • Ensures appropriate personnel management practices regarding recruitment and selection, adequate staffing, remuneration, performance appraisals, education and training, and management development policy.
  • Ensures an engaged, innovative, and inspiring working environment in the department by motivating, challenging, and coaching the department 's employees towards growth, manages and optimizes the innovative climate, stimulating entrepreneurship and driving engagement.
  • Cooperates with relevant parties outside of the department. Works across the borders of the own department – e.g. formulate strategies or project proposals across department borders, cooperating with other department heads, programs and the business. Establishes a network with relevant players; scientific relations outside of the department and with the business - on all topics and actively using this network to obtain input on technological developments, identifying trends and opportunities.


You're the right fit if:


  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree or equivalent in Engineering and/or business discipline or alike experience
  • Minimum 15+ experience in relevant field, and at least 6 years of experience in people management.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in End-to-End Product Development including New Product Development, Life Cycle Management, Quality Management and Productivity
  • Excellent time management and scheduling
  • Demonstrated experience developing and creating strong functional teams with robust talent pipeline. 
  • Coach and motivate a team
  • Manage stakeholders across functions and geographies
  • Gain deep insight in engineering/ architecture/research 
  • Work in a multi-site, matrixed environment


How we work together
We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.
Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities.
Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.
This job will be based at the Phillips Healthcare Innovation Centre, Pune. Office presence required.
