Role Description:


The Head of Development is the functional owner of development within FNZ APAC and will ensure consistency across our Development community in the APAC region. This role reports in to the Head of India Solution Centre who is based out of Gurugram.


Specific Role Responsibilities:


•            Day to day leadership, line management, mentoring and growth of FNZ’s developer  population;


  • Develop a career progression framework for developers
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure on-going consistency in software build projects
  • Ensure effective recruitment, development and succession planning across the developer population, including;
    • On-boarding and employee lifecycle
    • Co-ordination of job gradings to ensure global and departmental consistency
    • Accountable for the overall productivity and performance of the developers, system designers and architects within the team
    • Accountable for the quality of delivery out of the development team
    • Ensure the development team is motivated and engaged to deliver high quality work. This is measured through attrition and defect density.
    • Remove key-man dependencies and knowledge gaps, by developing skills and capabilities within the teams as required to meet the development plans of FNZ.
    • Develop a ‘community’ within the Developer teams, facilitate sharing of best practice and knowledge transfer and encourage a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team
    • Actively identify and promote opportunities for efficiency or process improvements
    • Provide a strong focus on system performance and application security within the development community
    • Drive software development best practice
    • Own and maintain the Agile software development life cycle process within FNZ
    • Oversee and ensure the adherence to agreed standards and processes specifically SDLC within the developer community
    • Promote the development of platform capabilities and reuse where it is appropriate to do so
    • Responsible for the APAC Software Architecture function
    • Drive and implement architectural advancement and ensure that architecture guidelines are followed by the developers
      • Identify and implement appropriate design and development methodologies, best practices, coding standards, documentation and tools
      • Ensure adequate Unit Tests are developed, maintained and are passing to ensure required quality gateways are met
      • Take an active role in understanding the business domain and FNZ platforms to ensure software is delivered in line with FNZ specifications.
      • Work collaboratively with the Solution Consulting and System Analyst functions to continuously improve requirements gathering

Experience required:


With a strong track record of ‘making things happen’ you will have a background in formal software development practices and processes and be comfortable managing the people working in this space on diverse, simultaneous projects of varying complexities. Strong people and personal relationship management skills, project / resource management, problem solving and change management, you will have a professional and positive approach, be self-motivated and be strong in building relationships across disciplines.


  • Experience leading and delivering the development of consumer grade, high- volume/high-availability software applications.
  • Understanding of the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) process and Agile development.
  • Technology engineering experience; specifically in software application/ product development.
  • Applicable experience in managing/leading software development teams in enterprise level, large scale, environments including management of sourced services.
  • Minimum BSc or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering or another discipline if appropriately offset by industry experience.
  • Hands on technical expertise in the development and/or architecture of systems utilising current technologies.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and teaming skills; skills and experience in executive level communication and presentations.
