Project Overview:
Bechtel is seeking to work with a major Indian corporation to provide Project Management Consultant (PMC) Services for a multibillion-dollar renewables and its infrastructure project in India. The PMC Services will be led out of India with personnel deployed in Mumbai, India.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will supervise a team of geology personnel, estimate project staffing needs, and schedule and assign work. You will prepare discipline estimates and work plans and review and approve geological investigations and studies. Your leadership will drive implementation of recommendations to ensure that construction needs requiring geological input are met according to project requirements.
Major Responsibilities:
- Plans, develops, directs, and participates in the day-to-day geology activity on medium to large sized complex projects that require complex geological studies, or may be assigned responsibility for multiple smaller projects within a global business unit
- Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of geology personnel assigned, estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work accordingly. Provides technical supervision for planning and engineering services
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly
- Provides geological resource planning and management input with other offices to accomplish planning and engineering products and services
- Negotiates contract clauses, requirements, and disputes. Provides technical expertise in construction claim cases
- Reviews and approves geological investigations and studies for the project to which assigned
- Responds to emergencies and critical construction needs requiring geological input
- Develops, implements, and manages safety related geology programs
- Develops policy used to define the geological portion of planning processes
- Represents the Geology sub-discipline at corporate meetings, public meetings, and at regional offices. Participates on Engineering Committee/Fellows Committee and advisory groups to develop corporate wide criteria and standards
- Develops technical training programs for geology within discipline and promotes awareness in Bechtel. Ensures that assigned geology personnel receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Advanced expertise in geotechnical engineering design principles.
- Profound understanding of site and subsurface investigations, foundation design, earthwork and slope stability analysis, and construction dewatering.
- Extensive experience in large industrial projects, specializing in design and construction within soft soil environments and ground improvement techniques.
- Proficient in developing specifications and scopes of work for geotechnical engineering projects, with a proven ability to effectively manage subcontractors to meet project objectives.
- Expertise in utilizing software such as Plaxis 2D and 3D, LPILE, APILE, SHAFT, GROUP, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, GRLWEAP, CAPWAP, Settle3D, and DYNA6.
- Expertise in seismic-related issues and evaluation of soil liquefaction potential.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing reports, memos, calculations, and technical documentation.
- Professional Engineer registration (PE) or equivalent.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
