The primary duty of the successful candidate will be to manage and maintain our GE Smallworld GIS environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our GIS applications and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and experience with GE Smallworld technologies, and will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining GIS applications and systems that support our client's projects and objectives. This individual will manage administrative tasks within a complex multi-server environment, including starting and stopping systems as well as ensuring their overall performance meets expectations. The candidate will collaborate closely with application developers to migrate code changes through the different testing phases and, once approved, into the production environment. The candidate should possess the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and interact successfully with the project manager, lead technical analysts, technical developers, and the business team.
The challenge:
- Design, develop, and implement GIS applications using GE Smallworld technology, ensuring optimal performance and usability
- Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, and end-users to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications
- Administer and maintain GE Smallworld GIS software, ensuring availability, performance, and security across all environments
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to ensure seamless operation of GE Smallworld applications
- Collaborate with other GIS developers and analysts to support application deployment, upgrades, and customizations
- Create and maintain geospatial databases, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of geospatial data management
- Develop, enhance, and troubleshoot applications utilizing Smallworld Development Suite, including custom modules and functionalities
- Build and maintain web-based GIS applications and services to provide users with access to vital geospatial information and tools
- Conduct testing, validation, and quality assurance on GIS applications to ensure they meet organizational standards and user requirements.
- Provide technical support and address issues related to GIS applications, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption to operations
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including configuration settings, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides
What Sets You Apart: (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree with four plus (4+) years of prior relevant experience. May consider more years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
- Proficiency in GE Smallworld Development Suite, including G/Technology and Object Modeling
- Solid understanding of geospatial data formats, analysis techniques, and data management principles
- Experience with programming languages such as Magik, Java, C#, and Python for application development and automation
- Familiarity with geospatial database management (e.g., Oracle Spatial, SQL Server) and data modeling
- Familiarity with web mapping and cartographic principles
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Working knowledge of agile and waterfall development methodologies
- Ability to set, manage, and meet deadlines for functional teams while maintaining composure under pressure
- Willingness to work some weekends as needed
You Might also have:
- Experience in the public sector with a utility or energy-focused company
- A solid understanding of systems development and project management methodologies and processes
- Familiarity with cloud-based GIS solutions and GIS data integration practices
- Knowledge of web mapping technologies and frameworks (e.g., Leaflet, OpenLayers)
- Proficiency using ServiceNow case management software
- Background in supporting large enterprise applications and engaging with business end users
- Knowledge of database management systems, such as Oracle or SQL Server
