How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?The Estimator is responsible for the preparation of cost estimates for proposals, projects and contract estimates. He is responsible for all total installed cost (TIC) budget estimates within study or basic engineering package contracts, where this information is included as a deliverable within the contract. He supports the process department during value engineering and development of Air Liquide licensed processes by setting up cost comparisons for process alternatives to find the optimum cost solution.
The Estimator’s mission is to gather and to challenge all relevant information for the proposal estimate to provide the best possible level of estimating accuracy and highest transparency by collecting, challenging, compiling and complementing all relevant cost information provided by the responsible disciplines. Depending on the accuracy required for the estimate, the costs are estimated by the Estimator alone or in co-operation with the technical and commercial disciplines in line with the Estimating and project execution strategy. The Estimator estimates the cost part of the proposal and assists the proposal manager, commercial contract manager and sales manager in determining the costs within the specified time schedule and the proposal man-hour budget. After contract award the Estimator converts the proposal estimate into the initial Contract Estimate (Start-Kalkulation) which forms the basis for project cost control under the responsibility of the cost controller.
The Estimator has prime responsibilities in the following areas:
- Setting up the estimating procedure
- Developing the estimating strategy together with the proposal manager
- Estimate cost as precisely as required / possible
- Highlight inconsistencies and initiate reviews
- Record all changes and revisions to cost up to contract signature
- Convert last proposal estimate into initial contract estimate
- Objectives; Performance and Efficiency Criteria:
- Proactive approach in gathering all required input data
- Transparency in tracking of changes between various estimate revisions
- Plausibility of estimate
- Availability of benchmark criteria
