What’s the role
In this role, you'll take the lead in proactively managing and nurturing a healthy Employee Relations/Industrial Relations (ER/IR) environment. You'll use data to spot emerging trends and craft strategies to mitigate potential future risks. You will report directly to the ERIR Manager, India, and work as an individual contributor.
What you’ll be doing
- Employee Relations and Labor Compliance
- Identify internal and external risks and ensure compliance with external legislative requirements as well as ensure good knowledge of Labor Practice standards internally and keep up to date with the external news and development.
- Manage or lead high-impact or high-risk individual or collective disciplinary, grievance or other ER/IR issues.
- Ensure governance of Statutory Compliances
- Facilitate and attend Labor Inspections and Audits
- Work with the Country Compliance Conduit
- Protecting our license to operate
- Mitigation from current Labor laws to four prospective labor codes.
- Industrial Relations
- Represent Shell as an expert on labor issues with Govt authorities.
- Assess IR management component of contractor tenders and manage relationship with employers of contractors (regulation of terms, co-employment risk)
Have oversight and influence of major contractors in their IR strategy/tactics where applicable (consult with CP)
- HSSE, Compliance & Ethics
- Proactively establish local crisis management governance and collaborate with key stakeholders (e.g., RE, Shell Health) to handle HR aspects effectively.
- Actively monitor a pulse of what goes on in the organization and anticipate what topics can grow into grievances (also through the line and HR Advice)
- Take the lead on HR investigations, GHL complaints, and other grievances, ensuring timely resolution.
- Ensure duty of care towards employees and contractors
What you bring
- An expert with at least 8+ years of experience in labor laws, labor compliance, complex case management, and the implementation of new legislation in India.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of country-specific ER/IR legislation, regulations, directives, practices, and processes.
- Able to identify and understand local external market trends (economic, political, social) and derive insights to drive effective a long-term ER/IR environment.
- Have awareness of organizational health/capability diagnostic and design skills
- Ability to analyze data and provide insights. Demonstrating strong diagnostic and evaluation skills – able to distill key themes and value drivers from complex and sometimes conflicting data and insights.
- Leverage influencing skills to effectively manage a broad range of both external and internal stakeholders including third party bodies and government agencies.
- Bring strong understanding of HR and influencing skills (with other parts of the HR organization)
