Position Summary:


Caterpillar's Small Drivetrain (SDT) is a market leader in the design, development, sales and support of off-highway transmissions (50 kW / 67 hp to 135 kW / 180 hp) for Backhoe Loaders, Telescopic Material Handlers and Wheel Loaders, supplied internally and externally to original equipment manufacturers.


As an Engineering Manager you will be responsible for supervision and technical direction to a group of engineers and technical specialists engaged in design, development or research activities for transmissions and drivetrain components, focused on current product maintenance activities including such things as quality improvement, component cost reduction and localization, new features development and assembly line support. Reporting to this position are engineers and support personnel in several global locations. You will guide the team to solve complex technical problems through innovative solutions and support the development and execution of the product strategy, stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor and coach team members, and deepen your professional network. You will manage the section budget, forecast, and cost structure.


Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:  


  • Lead a global team in transmission design and development work in support of quality improvement, cost reduction and new features development.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to initiate ideas and problem solve.
  • Use foundational product development skills such as conceptual design, data analysis & extraction, and failure resolution & prevention.
  • Manage staffing, development, and performance management programs for the team; motivate and develop project and team leaders.
  • Collaborate closely with global cross functional project teams, other divisions/business units, suppliers, and internal and external customers.
  • Support the development of the product strategy for transmission components and systems to support aftermarket, internal and external customer needs.
