This position provides leadership and the day-to-day supervision for a team of statisticians and the SAS programmer team. This position will support scientific processes that drive quality and timeliness and add value in alignment with Global Clinical Development priorities and initiatives. This position will closely collaborate and communicate with global R&D functions including other functional leads, research scientists, study investigators, veterinary clinicians, medical writing, regulatory affairs and quality assurance to assure commitments are met with quality and speed. This position may also lead statistical support for Innovation projects. This position will additionally support local leadership initiatives at the Elanco India Alliance Center.


Functions, Duties, Tasks:


Leadership and Team Management:


  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of statisticians and SAS programmers, providing regular feedback and development opportunities. This includes managing performance, hiring, terminations, and contractor agreements.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment aligned with Elanco values (integrity, respect, and excellence) and behavioral pillars (involve, deliver, innovate, and own).
  • Develop and track team performance metrics and key activities, reporting progress to Sr management.
  • Integrate Elanco culture into hiring practices and intern development.

Project Management and Execution:


  • Oversee planning and execution of SAS programming support for global projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budget deliverables, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with Data Management, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Pet Health and Farm Animal clinical Development, ensuring the alignment of local statistics activities with the global statistics team to achieve project goals.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets effectively, contributing to the successful delivery of the Elanco pipeline.

Technical Expertise and Collaboration:


  • Provide statistical and SAS programming expertise and guidance to cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with Elanco R&D scientific approaches.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve process efficiency and implement solutions and deliverable milestones.
  • Represent the Statistics function at IAC, collaborating with the quality organization on site-level and corporate-level quality initiatives, audits, and inspections.
  • Ensure adherence to quality control standards, scientific integrity, and animal welfare principles in all activities.

Minimum Qualification (education, experience and/or training, required certifications):


  • Advanced degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or a related field, competent programmer using SAS software.
  • 10 years working as a manager of SAS programmers and/or statistician in roles relevant to drug development.
  • Fundamental understanding of statistical methods and SAS programming techniques.
  • Functional GXP knowledge, in particular GLP and GCP.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Organizational planning skills, ability to manage competing priorities and flexibility to adapt to change.
  • Ability to work additional hours as required and work with staff in irregular time zones
