Role Purpose:


Business Risk Coe is a global core service provider within the Wholesale Business Risk (WCOO) function providing risk management services for Commercial (CMB) and Global Banking (GBM) customers across regions through our Coe sites in India, China, Malaysia, Poland, Egypt, and Mexico. Reporting to the Head of Business Risk Coe, this role is a key Coe leadership position based out of India.


This role plays a strategic and vital part in transformation of our control office capabilities across products and services including control rationalization, control automation working with value stream owners, process-risk-control mapping, operational resilience and adopt generative AI / emerging technology to design our current and future control office delivery model from the Coe. The role holder will have accountability and oversight of all control office delivery for cross business products and services. The role holder will lead the team through developing and implementing new strategic outcomes creating a consistent control office operating model across business lines.

Principal responsibilities:


  • Ownership of control office delivery of Wholesale business, products, and services from the center of excellence. 
  • Analyze and optimize control processes eliminating inefficiencies, implement automation and digitalization initiatives. Design and implement a consistent/standard control monitoring and reporting framework providing insightful reporting to stakeholders.
  • In partnership with Group Finance and DBS functions transform and design the ‘go to’ controls oversight operating model for Wholesale businesses. Drive innovation and improvement in control transformation.
  • Ownership and accountability for the delivery of operational resilience related outcomes and program from the Coe in line with regulatory requirements and timelines.
  • Working with the Global & Regional Control Office to oversee the provision of Coe services in line with agreed KPIs & managing any associated risks.
  • Working with the Wholesale OAAI office to implement Generative AI / emerging technologies to streamline, consolidate, and remove unproductive tasks across control office activities.
  • Escalating through regional/global/functional leads as necessary to ensure key performance standards are deployed in a consistent manner and sufficiently aligned to the proposed service levels, intervening as necessary to resolve issues and drive performance across teams.
  • Leading an effective governance to ensure both existing and new work in control office are in line with workforce of the future strategy and are robustly reviewed for efficiency purposes.
  • Development and tracking KPIs to identify performance trends, interpreting outcomes to address areas of concern and to ensure enhancements are made where necessary.
  • Actively participating in relevant regulatory change initiatives, compliance, and operational risk related forums / committees
  • Promote a positive work culture within NFR Coe based on respect for people, integrity of actions, creativity and collaboration leading to increased productivity.

Leadership & Teamwork:


  • Developing and communicating a powerful and compelling vision for the Coe that inspires and engages people with HSBC values and goals as the basis of an inclusive, high performance, customer-centered culture.
  • Leading, developing and providing a stimulating work environment for teams within the Coe to attract key talent and develop critical capability to provide for succession and ensure delivery of business objectives.
  • Developing and deploying individual contributor performance management frameworks to drive efficiencies.
  • Setting expectations, sharing best practice, and managing, monitoring, coaching, and developing leaders to ensure that they enhance their performance and capabilities, while meeting required standards.
  • Driving and encouraging constructive cross-country and cross-business teamwork through collaboration and matrix management.
  • Setting and maintaining the highest conduct standards across all aspects in the Coe. Collaborating with respective DBS colleagues and business partners to ensure a united approach to global service delivery that prioritizes quality on all NFR related matters.
