Functional Description:

Ensuring we have the right compensation in place for employees and that our incentive plans adhere to regulatory compliance while driving business results is core to delivering on our company strategic imperatives. This is an exciting opportunity to be a key contributing member to the Global Compensation team. This role will report to the Vice President, Incentive Design & Governance (IDG), Executive Compensation & Regulatory Compliance and is responsible for leading and overseeing regulatory compliance and governance surrounding global compensation programs, and managing deliverables and relationships across key internal Committees focused on Risk Compliance and impacts on rewards, the regulatory relationship with the Bank Holding Company and Federal Reserve Board, and other relevant aspects of corporate governance and regulatory compliance within compensation.
How will you make an impact in this role?
- Manage and integrate risk-related processes within enterprise compensation programs, including incentive compensation
- Manage Global Compensation’s governance agenda by ensuring all processes are documented, appropriate controls are in place and being adhered to, and working with operational risk and other enterprise teams on a regular basis to ensure due diligence
- Ensure program compliance based on mentorship from groups in the organization that work with regulators including but not limited to risk, compliance, and legal, to lead response, materials creation, and reporting to regulators when required
- Ideate new and enhanced methods of mitigating risk within our practices using insights, takeaways, and external perspective
- Manage process and reporting related to risk performance, Regulatory Roles Program, and, when required, regulatory responses using insights and analytics thoughtfully
- Coordinate with Internal Audit Groups, American Express Finance, Tax and Legal on accounting and regulatory aspects of program when required, serving as a central point of contact and subject matter expert
- Monitor, track and report on legislation, regulation, and internal policies pertaining to executive pay and incentive compensation, and provide program and practice recommendations based on findings
- Interpret plan provisions and research plan documents to respond to business and/or partner requests as needed
- Maintain awareness of practices among competitors, as well as regulatory and business trends in global compensation to propose solutions that ensure plans are competitive and compliant
- Emphasize compliance and risk mitigation in our processes, adhering to established governance frameworks and preparing for forecasted regulatory expectations
- Centrally coordinate processes around risk-related items and deadlines across executive and incentive compensation, while identifying opportunities to streamline processes and build efficiencies
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of demonstrated experience in incentive compensation and/or governance, and exposure to a broad range of compensation practices
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance, Business, Economics, Human Resources or related field
- Familiarity with the standard concepts, practices, and procedures within compensation
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management, including cross-functional colleagues in Risk, Finance, HR, Tax and Legal
- Strong consultative, analytical, and communication skills with strong financial competence
- Ability to communicate clearly and lead large meetings with key partners, including senior leadership
- High proficiency in data management and analysis, including MS Access and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional progressive executive or incentive compensation, compliance related experience is a plus
- MBA or equivalent degree preferred
- Experience interacting with large cross-functional groups, preferred
