Role purpose

We’re seeking a visionary Director of Engineering to lead the FLX ONE Order backend development. This high-impact role involves strategic oversight of backend services (primarily in C++) with a focus on architectural excellence, product alignment, and full-stack integration with UI components. You’ll lead a skilled team, mentor engineers, and foster a culture of innovation, delivering robust solutions that drive the next wave of travel technology.

In this role, you'll drive our FLX ONE Order backend development, ensuring technical excellence, architectural integrity, and customer-centric functionality. With responsibilities spanning across backend engineering in C++, UI development, and architectural leadership, you will guide a team of talented engineers to build and scale a robust ONE Order backend that delivers superior performance and value to our global airline partners.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Engineering Leadership: Shape and execute the vision for FLX ONE’s ONE Order backend, aligning with product goals, business objectives, and industry standards.
• Architectural Ownership: Oversee the technical design, implementation, and scalability of the ONE Order backend services, driving architectural decisions that prioritize security, scalability, and maintainability.
• Full-Stack Mindset: Lead a team that spans backend C++ services and front-end user interface engineering, ensuring seamless integration, cross-functionality, and high performance across the stack.
• Product Development & Delivery: Partner with product, UX, and cross-functional teams to ensure development aligns with user needs and timelines. Lead the team through product development lifecycles, from ideation to deployment, with a focus on quality, efficiency, and speed.
• Technical Mentorship & Team Development: Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing engineering team, cultivating an environment that values innovation, accountability, and growth.
• Continuous Improvement: Utilize engineering insights tools and quality metrics to optimize code quality, acceptance criteria, and overall roadmap clarity. Drive process improvements to elevate engineering velocity and product quality.

What You Bring to the Role:

• Deep Technical Expertise: 10+ years of experience in software engineering with a strong emphasis on backend development, ideally in C++. Experience with UI engineering and understanding of the full-stack development lifecycle and AWS is a plus.
• Leadership Experience: 5+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles, leading cross-functional, geographically distributed teams with locations outside of India and building culture that emphasizes ownership and excellence.
• Technical Breadth: Proven experience with backend development in C++, coupled with a strong understanding of UI engineering principles and practices.
• Architectural Insight: Demonstrated experience architecting scalable, high-performance systems, ideally in a SaaS environment, with the ability to make informed trade-offs and long-term decisions.
• Collaboration & Communication: Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences, fostering trust and effective partnerships across engineering, product, and business teams.
• Customer-Centric Mindset: A dedication to understanding and solving customer needs, with a passion for delivering high-impact products that shape the industry.
