The Director for Community Programs India, is a key member of Citi’s Community Investing and Development (CID) team which works to enhance Citi’s positive social impact through innovative financial solutions, community partnerships, philanthropy and volunteerism. The Director will be responsible for leading Citi India’s community programming, ensuring alignment to both Citi’s global approach and local CSR practices and policies. The Director role is an integral member of CID’s international leadership team as well as Citi India’s communications and public affairs function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead CSR programing in India – end-to-end - including strategy, implementation, monitoring, and reporting, working closely with senior business leaders
- Guide a team of professionals working to implement CSR programming
- Partner closely with Citi India’s communications and public affairs team to demonstrate and communicate positive impact, Matrix reporting line into Public Affairs Officer
- Lead and design community partnerships and ensure timely and effective implementation and reporting of projects
- Manage relationships with leadership of local and national nonprofit organizations and foundations
- Source, evaluate and present funding proposals to key internal stakeholders and the CSR committee based on thorough due diligence, in-depth analysis and evaluation, and ensuring proper program documentation as required (e.g. impact analysis, MOUs, etc.)
- Lead and develop strong working relationships with internal units, including Legal, Finance, and Risk to ensure full compliance with country’s regulatory requirements (including Companies Act and all relevant amendments and the FCRA Act) and Citi policies and processes of the CSR portfolio
- Understanding and familiarity with monitoring and evaluation, and experience of engagement with partners and third party agencies
- Lead adherence of Citi’s global charitable contribution process for CSR programs in India
- Appropriately assess all aspects of regulatory, controls and compliance risk, as well as operational and franchise risk of the CSR portfolio and apply sound ethical judgment when escalating, managing, and reporting risk and control issues
- Work with the international CID team and colleagues across businesses, communications, HR and other units to advance volunteering in India, including Citi’s annual Global Community Day
- Serve as an in-house lead subject matter expert of community investing in India, share best practices and latest industry trends
- Represent Citi at industry events, conferences and forums
Skills
- Minimum of 15+ years professional and managerial experience, preferably in community development, philanthropy, or social impact
- Leadership experience in designing and delivering community programming aligned with local regulations
- Advanced analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with sharp attention to detail
- Excellent time management, prioritization skills and project management
- Interpersonal skills, particularly written and verbal communication, and comfort communicating with a broad range of stakeholders
- Ability to exhibit sound independent judgment
- Ability to multi-task, working well under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to lead team and engage with multiple stakeholders
- Prior experience of working in matrix structures and multi-geography organizations preferred
