BASIC INFORMATION Position Name Directors – Engineering Job Band 5 ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Job Purpose/Objective
To maximize the efficiency by ensuring equipment reliability and minimum breakdown Time
Drive key performance indicators and ensure all projects are on time and within the required standards of quality, cost, time delivery and safety parameters.
Key responsibilities
Ensure equipment reliability and performance meet required production levels by maintaining preventive maintenance programmes and equipment performance statistics and adopting total quality management techniques.
Preparation and implementation of planned maintenance programs for all equipment and civil works.
Prepare annual maintenance capital and expense budgets.
Identify and evaluate new equipment, machinery, technology and systems available world-wide.
Ensure maintenance standards required by internal/external customers and manufacturer’s standards are complied with by, for example, the development and implementation of maintenance policies, programmes and appropriate information systems.
Manage the cost of inventory by implementation “just in time” stock levels based on replacement evaluation of replacement parts for plants and equipment.
Manage and minimize labour costs associated with operational plant maintenance activities by effective control and utilization of labour resources.
Monitor, assess and process warranty claims on equipment.
Ensure the environmental and occupational health and safety work practices comply with statutory and corporate policies and procedures.
Responsible for evaluation and recommendation of tenders and management of contract work.
Training of workshop supervisors and personnel in container terminal maintenance skills.
Maximize the utilization of infrastructure and equipment resources to meet required service levels both now and in the future.
Monitor, assess and process warranty claims on equipment.
Advice CEO as required on equipment needs and specifications.
Liaise with external suppliers, service providers.
Ensure the Quality Health Safety and Environment and Security policy and procedures are observed.
Contribute to the continuous improvement process and to the meeting of relevant objectives and targets
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES Skills and Competencies
Well developed oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to prepare well-structured and comprehensive written submission.
Minimum of 15 years senior Maintenance Management experience in Materials Handling industries preferred of which minimum 5 years at a Senior Management Level.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to identify, analyze and solve maintenance problems.
Good understanding of modern engineering and maintenance management practices and planning skills.
Management of multi-disciplined teams (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil) within a highly regulated workplace.

Educational Qualification (min)
Graduate in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical & Electronics) or a Class One Marine Engineer.
