The Database Specialist is a senior position in the Info Security Assessments team and a crucial role in building data-driven solutions to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and solutions that enhance our ability to assess, report, and mitigate cybersecurity risks effectively.



Responsibilities:


Data Pipeline Development, Design & Automation:


  • Design and implement efficient database structures to ensure optimal performance and support analytics.
  • Design, implement, and optimize secure data pipelines to ingest, process, and store large volumes of structured and unstructured data from diverse sources, including vulnerability scans, security tools, and assessments.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to provide clean, structured datasets that enable advanced analytics and insights into cybersecurity risks, trends, and remediation activities.

Data Integration & Collaboration:


  • Partner with the Reporting and Analytics lead to automate repetitive data-related tasks, such as reporting, data enrichment, and aggregation, to streamline the assessment process.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and the Security Assessments teams to integrate data from multiple sources, create reusable data models, and ensure data quality, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including IT, Risk, Compliance, and other cybersecurity groups, to ensure data solutions align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.

Data Security, Monitoring & Maintenance:


  • Implement robust security controls for data storage, transfer, and access to protect sensitive information in compliance with the bank’s security policies and industry standards.
  • Monitor data pipelines and systems for performance and reliability, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements to improve system uptime and efficiency.

Database Migration:


  • Conduct a thorough assessment of the existing database landscape, including software versions, configurations, and data structures.
  • Support in the migration plan to transition databases from various platforms (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, MS SQL, PostgreSQL) to the new centralized platform.
  • Establish data migration processes to ensure seamless and accurate transfer of data between systems.
  • Coordinate with application teams to manage the impact of database migrations and ensure a smooth transition.
  • Provide comprehensive documentation and knowledge transfer to support the ongoing maintenance of the new database environment.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.


  • 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role in a data-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL tools and frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, Talend).
  • Proficiency in querying , transforming and automation using SQL, Python, PowerShell, or similar languages.

Data Systems Knowledge:


  • Strong understanding of data design techniques and best practices for database architecture.
  • Experience with data storage solutions (e.g., Snowflake, AWS S3, Google BigQuery).

Security Knowledge:


  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts, risk assessments, and vulnerability management tools (e.g., Nessus, Qualys).
  • Awareness of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and secure data handling practices.

Soft Skills:


  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with global teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining data accuracy and integrity.
  • Excellent collaboration abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience in the financial services sector or similar regulated industries.
  • Familiarity in database management systems (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with BI and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Proven track record of successfully migrating databases between different software platforms.
  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Data Analytics, Cloudera Certified Data Engineer, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with distributed computing systems such as Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.
