To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Join us as Data Platform developer at Barclays where you'll part of a team to build a sustainable data platform infrastructure for Wealth and the Private Bank to support the multiple channels of their business areas. This includes data warehousing as well as provisioning services to regulatory, colleague, digital, client reporting and analytics channels that are compliant with GDMS data controls, and technology governance controls of the bank. The application domain includes and integrates a number of Barclays’ internally developed applications covering Client Data Integration, Client Channel services, Asset & Reference Data, Data Warehousing and Application Integration services.
To be successful as a Data Platform developer you should have experience with:
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience of AWS development.
- Experience in building efficient data pipelines using Apache Spark and AWS services.
- Handson coding experience preferably on Python.
- Strong knowledge of AWS services ( Lambda, Glue, Step Functions, IAM roles, Lakeformation, EventBridge, SNS, SQS, EC2,Security Groups, CloudFormation, RDS, DynamoDB).
- Proven ability to design and develop enterprise level software solutions using tools and techniques such as Source Control, Build Tools (e.g. Maven), TDD, Jenkins etc.
- Demonstrable working knowledge on different file formats XML, JSON, Iceberg, Parquet, HUDI, Avro
- Communication and Collaboration: Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Documenting configurations, processes, and best practices for the team.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical skills to address complex challenges . Self-driven, proactive and demonstrates initiative with strong problem-solving abilities.
Some other highly values skills include:
- Experience of working in Agile software development teams with onsite, offshore and remote team members.
- BigData / Data Warehouse experience.
- Build the AWS environment through automated scripts using Cloudformation.
- Exposure to technology skills on working with real-time applications including kafka technologies.
- SQLserver – ability to write advanced TSQL stored procedures, sql skills, schema design, query tuning etc.
