As a Data Migration Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire data migration process from a legacy transactional system to a new transactional system. This role requires a strategic blend of technical expertise and project management skills to ensure data is accurately and efficiently transferred with minimal downtime. The Data Migration Lead will work closely with IT teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors to ensure a seamless transition.


About the role:


  • Lead the scoping, planning and execution of data migration strategies, including the definition of data migration plans and the identification of data migration tools and resources needed.
  • Partner with DPM & Delivery & Data PM, D&A Lead
  • Collaborate with IT architects, database administrators, and software developers (including third parties) to understand the technical aspects and complexities of the data structures involved.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and completeness throughout the migration process by implementing data cleansing, data transformation, and data verification methods.
  • Manage risks and resolve issues that affect the data migration scope, schedule, and quality.
  • Communicate regularly with project and business stakeholders, providing updates on migration progress and any potential impacts on business operations.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of the data migration process, including data mapping, transformation rules, and any custom migration scripts.
  • Train and supervise a team of data migration specialists, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and tools to perform their duties effectively.
  • Coordinate with the legacy system and new system vendors to address technical challenges and ensure compatibility and performance standards are met.
  • Conduct post-migration reviews to validate the success of the migration and to capture lessons learned for future initiatives.
  • Perform Escalation Management

About you:


  • Around 10 to 12 years of experience in data migration, data management, or a similar role, with a track record of successful large-scale data migration projects.
  • Strong understanding of databases, data modelling, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
  • Familiarity with data migration tools and software, as well as programming languages such as SQL, Python, C# or Java.
  • Excellent project management skills, with a certification in PMP or PRINCE2 being advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience with change management processes and knowledge of the impact on business operations during data migration initiatives.
