We are looking for a talented Corporate Counsel to support television series productions on our rapidly evolving and expanding ad-supported streaming (AVOD) business in India.

In this role, you will handle all legal aspects of development, production and marketing of original TV content in support of Amazon rapidly expanding scripted and unscripted television initiatives in India for its AVOD service(s), including helping to develop forms and policies, and structuring, drafting and negotiating a wide range of complex agreements such as rights option and acquisition agreements, unscripted format agreements, writer agreements, producer agreements, production services agreements, above-the-line talent agreements, documentary and reality participant and access agreements, and other content production related agreements. You will be responsible for all legal matters during the course of development, production, and marketing, or a series, including evaluating rights issues, confirming chain of title and handling clearance matters, standards and practices review, policy issues, and promotion and publicity issues. You will also analyze and interpret contracts and provide thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues in a wide range of legal areas, including intellectual property, digital media, entertainment and labor, rights of publicity, policy and regulatory compliance.
Throughout all the above tasks, you will closely coordinate with local and global legal teams, outside counsel, and Amazon’s digital video and studios legal teams. The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enjoy being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.
This position is based in Mumbai and requires the candidate to work in office. Some travel, domestic and international, will be required.
- LL.B. (undergraduate law degree) from a top tier university in India.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience as a lawyer, with several years of experience with a studio, production company, or an entertainment and media law firm in television development, production, marketing and strong skills in drafting and negotiating complex contracts.
- High degree of independence, initiative and decisiveness but also a desire to be challenged and think outside the box.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated proficiency in working closely with and advising senior executives of an organization.
- A team player and consensus builder with great people skills who can effectively and efficiently collaborate and build relationships with attorneys and business clients at all levels throughout the organization.
- Ability to prioritize in a fast-moving environment.
- Outstanding legal and business judgment especially in ambiguous situations.
- Highest standards of ethics and professional integrity.
- In-house experience in the media space with a reputed MNC.
