Commercial Manager - Nuclear New Build

We are looking for someone who has experience of working in the Engineering Services Sector with experience in Project Development, who enjoys a variety of work including the delivery of complex commercial solutions and improvement initiatives.  With a desire to work in the Nuclear sector you’ll enjoy approaching things in different ways to find the best possible solutions – you like making improvements and consider different approaches, trying to find the best approach to fit whatever is the current context.


This role offers a significant platform for personal development and the opportunity to get involved in a variety of exciting projects covering a broad spectrum of clients and government (both Provincial and Federal) focused primarily on the development of Nuclear New Build projects, with opportunities to also support Major Plant Refurbishments, Operations and Decommissioning.  We are seeking people who are keen to develop to their full potential to the mutual benefit of the individual, the team and the company and who are committed to growing successful partner and client relationships.


In an evolving energy market, where the business is growing, we are seeking an individual who can be at the forefront of leading and supporting the business in achieving its goals, while managing and balancing business risk.  The role requires access to confidential information to support medium and long-term financial analysis and planning.


Responsibilities:


  • Collaborates with Engineering, Project Delivery, Finance and Business Development teams and takes a leading role in proposal and/or project strategy development and in the preparation and review of business cases, proposals, commercial contracts, subcontracts and other agreements.
  • Helps shape commercial strategies and approaches related to partnerships, funding and payback mechanisms for intellectual property investments, and related to interactions with government and customers.
  • Identifies and analyzes potential commercial risks and liabilities associated with business cases, proposals, ongoing projects and supplier agreements.
  • Interfaces with technical and legal teams to ensure that robust measures are in place for development, use and licensing of IP.
  • Interfaces with internal stakeholders as required, including technical, risk assessment, legal, cost estimating, insurance, bond, taxation, treasury and finance functions.
  • Interfaces with the client, our partners and key external stakeholders (regulators etc.). Must be able to deal with all key stakeholders on delicate matters tactfully and professionally while protecting AtkinsRéalis interests.
  • Provides commercial support in contract administration and in the preparation of narratives and entitlement documentation and the resolution of claims.
  • Works closely with the procurement manager to ensure flow down of the prime contract terms to other related contracts on ongoing projects.
  • Access to confidential information to support medium- and long-term financial analysis and planning.
  • Assists the project teams in the understanding and interpretation of the contract language.
  • Attends steering committee meetings between AtkinsRéalis and other partners and prepares minutes of meeting recording agreed decisions and actions going forward.

Requirements:


  • EUniversity degree in Engineering, Finance or Law, with experience in a similar role in Nuclear & Power, Oil & Gas or Industrial Sectors.
  • Professional / Chartered Professional within chosen field of expertise (Engineering, Finance, Project Management etc).
  • Experience in Project and Program Development and Management preferably within the Engineering Services sector or within an OEM environment.
  • Experience in commercial governance, bidding, contract management and project delivery.
  • Proven ability to organize, set priorities and handle multiple complex tasks at one time consistent with corporate processes.
  • Understanding of client and client organizations, objectives, personnel, and environments.
  • Ability to reconcile usually disparate objectives of buyer and seller as contracting parties.
  • Superior communication and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take the initiative.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Experience in communicating with various stakeholder groups from internal project staff to clients, subcontractors and the executive team.
  • Ability to effectively present information at both detail and summary level. Ability to interact with executive management and operational level staff.
  • Experience of working with Clients / Projects internationally (cross-boundary).
  • Experience in project development incl financing and due diligence activities.
  • Knowledge and experience in Nuclear New Build project / programs or equivalent from other industries.
  • Knowledge and experience in Nuclear Regulatory Licensing and Compliance.
