The Role: Business Involvement Screens (BIS) Methodology Specialist (2 positions)


The Location: Ahmedabad


The Team:


S&P Global is one of the leading providers of the ESG data for investors, corporates, and other stakeholders. ESG creates value for our clients, value to Investors in mitigating risk of long-term investments and Value to Corporates through long term financial performance. It focuses on collecting broad range of data through a variety of company and other approved sources, to provide users with an in-depth, multi-faceted view into the nature of a company’s direct and indirect involvement in business activities, liaise with various critical stakeholders in understanding and building the content set. This data is used by investors, asset managers and in S&P Global’s various divisions and products. The team is responsible for managing S&P Global’s proprietary database, comprising one of the world’s most comprehensive datasets on business involvements.


Responsibilities & Impact:


  • Develop training content, quizzes, tests of varying difficulty levels for BIS team.
  • Standardize, maintain, and conduct training process for onboarding team members.
  • Maintaining transparency and accuracy by ensuring access to BIS methodology information to various stakeholders.
  • Develop new processes/tools and documentations on quality.
  • Engage with BIS analysts to understand the challenges and suggest solutions.
  • Ensure timeliness and completeness in implementation of new BIS methodology.
  • Provide inputs and ideas for new collection methods and product improvements related to the covered content sets.
  • Keeps him/herself updated in knowledge of content sets. Build industry knowledge by understanding industry trends and reporting standards.
  • Contributing to achieving the overarching BIS methodology development and score quality goals
  • Acts as a backup to the team leader.

The Impact:


As a part of S&P’s ESG team, you will develop and maintain accurate, complete, and timely data sets while considering the business division’s global interests and needs internally & externally.


You will be a part of the ESG Research & Methodology team to ensure development of new methodology and maintaining accuracy and quality throughout the company’s assessment process. You will be analyzing data; identifying issues with the methodology & emerging trends, processes, and practices; engaging with appraisal and QC analysts to ensure high predictability and zero information is missed.

What We’re Looking For:


This role requires an individual who can develop and implement methodologies and guidelines for identifying companies involved in controversial business activities or those significantly engaged in sustainable and ethical revenue generation. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional analytical skills, a deep understanding of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) criteria, and a passion for ethical investing.


Basic Qualifications & Skills Required:


  • 4+ years of experience in the Financial & ESG data ratings and research.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in Quality control of data sets and research.
  • Robust understanding of Industry Classifications and how they correlate with a company’s business activities.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and interpretive skills.
  • Excellent communication skill (Written and Verbal) as it involves liaising with multiple stakeholders across regions and training new joiners across the globe on Business Involvement Screens
  • Advanced Excel skills; comfortable using Excel formulas.
  • Strong attention to detail and persistent approach to work.
  • Agile mindset as it involves a lot of collaboration and coordination.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Customer-focused and strong interpersonal skills

  • Reliable and able to go the extra mile when required.
  • Key differentiators/ Added Advantages
    • Candidates with prior methodology development experience
    • Knowledge about Defense industry and/or Fossil Fuels industry
    • Proficiency in creating data analysis tools and excel models.
    • Qlik/Tableau, SQL/VBA, Python knowledge
